Sorry. The DAWGS have my vote for best team.
AND if Rice beats the chiggers again today I'M GONNA BE IN YOUR FACE!

It's hard to argue that we're ahead of Tulane this season.

The Dawgs are #1 in the state! One game....especially in baseball...doesn't mean anything. Gimme a break. If LSU is actually better it's not because of ONE frickin' game! Doesn't prove anything. Tell ya what, SLU is pretty good. Was #5 in the nation in team ERA. What did Rice do? Oh yeah, 17-2 and 15-0. The same Rice team we beat 4 outta 6 recently. Don't sell our Dawgs short.
We had five make regionals and Northwestern State (final RPI of 47) barely missed the tournament. UNO and McNeese were both top-100 RPI schools, though they both were down from what they normally have been. Baseball in Louisiana is typically, top to bottom, the best sport in the state.

All valid points. We finished second in the toughest regional, while Tulane lost to the No. 3 seed to finish runner-up in one of the weakest regionals. They entered the postseason two spots ahead of us in the RPI, while as of today we sit two spots ahead of them. We finished 42-20, while they finished 41-21. Their strength of schedule, despite us being in a tougher conference, was much higher than ours (32 spots) and they were ranked in the top 25 while we weren't.
While those are all great stats, and I am not trying to demean them at all, what matters on the recruiting trail is perception. We are still perceived to be behind LSU, Tulane and ULL in baseball. While we boast a head-to-head sweep over ULL, we lost a tough game against LSU and didn't play Tulane. Our in-state record shows we still have room to grow despite a great season. We finished 10-3 against Louisiana teams -- including road losses to LSU and UNO. We split with McNeese and swept ULL, ULM and NSU. That's a great deal of progress.
Looking closer at Tulane, while they were slightly better against the RPI top 50 than we were (10-7 vs. 9-7), maybe I was a bit blinded by the fact they swept LSU. They still only went 5-6 against in-state opponents, including being swept by Nicholls. Maybe we do have a claim at being the No. 2 team in the state, especially since our head-to-head sweep of ULL helps us overcome their higher RPI (16 vs. 31).

Rice is on the verge of beating LSU to win the BR regional. So that makes the Dawgs the best team in LA, right?
