Thumbs Up C. E. Byrd Pitcher commits to Louisiana Tech

    http://www.shreveporttimes.com/story...tech/85602320/

Byrd's imposing lefthanded pitcher made plans to stay close to home and follow family tradition Tuesday morning.
Jonathan Fincher verbally committed to Louisiana Tech, who began following him two summers ago and offered a scholarship after he visited in April. His brother Garrett, another Byrd grad and football player, already attends school in Ruston, where their grandfather taught as an economics professor.

    That's Great!

Proud to say I took several of my economics courses with Dr. Fincher back in the day. He was no nonsense and challenging but appreciated a good debate....when you actually learned enough to think you could voice an opinion. Some days you'd get the bear, but most days the bear got you!

"though a stoic expression typically hides those emotions." All I can say is, that acorn didn't fall far from the tree! Looking forward to seeing he play.

His dad also went to tech in the Mid 80's. From the guys I know close to Byrd, he's gonna be really good.

Byrd has many kids go to LSU, but the last few years and this year is no exception, very large numbers of them are choosing Louisiana Tech. If I'm not mistaken, more chose Tech now.

That Byrd program over the last 5-6 years has churned out at least 9-11 D1 players. They have quickly become one of the better programs across the state.

Hopefully our Byrd posters on this thead realize I was taking a small jab at them.

One of my favorite Tech players this year was a Byrd product.

So glad he had a great year of winning to finish up on, but he has always been a winner.

Byrd's principal is very pro-LSU. As good as Byrd does in football-really do not see alot of their guys go the D-1 football route. Arnaz Battle-the last really big name guy in 90's that I recall. Compared to schools in their own divison and the cities of Shreveport-Bossier.

Byrd actually sends quite a few students to TECH. or at least they did in the 80's, 90's and early 2000 era.
