    jackson Bienville wma

don't know how may of yall have used this wma over the years. it was a high traffic wma used by folks all over the state. well today it ends. weyerhauser put it up for bids to public and after this was done state was to be able to try to work out some kind of deal. guess no agreement could be made. its all about the money and its a damn shame. was really a newbie to the wma, just started hunting it during the turkey youth season and it was truly a jewel for the area and the state.

I haven't hunted there since I was in college.

Sadly, hunting has become a rich mans game.

I am surprised it lasted as long as it did, being owned by huge timber companies.

With timber process deflated - the were looking to make money for shareholders

It's as simple as that - they knew they were sitting on a prime lease and pulled the trigger

Knew this was happening once they banned running dogs a few years ago - bunch of the big clubs offered good $$$ then for a lease...

talking with guy that got one of leases, said one tract wasn't even bid on. state made an offer not much below what they were asking and "the timber company" turned it down. Weyerhaeuser never intended on the department keeping this under any circumstances.
