DJ, you are underestimating the trend there. Wells 15 years, Gaspard 7 years, Goff 3-4 years and done. But whatever, he's a P5 puke now, so time to move on.

Well....after going over to Bama's baseball site, http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-bas...sebl-body.html, and seeing that they've only had two coaches over the past 22 years, Goff easily made the right choice.

Jim Wells made the tournament 12 of 15 years, http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-bas...090109aaa.html.

And Gaspard in 4 of 7 years, http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-bas...053016aac.html.

The only strike against Gaspard is that his SEC record was generally at .500 during his years. Despite this, he still made the tournament.

Goff should do very well there.

Also, it is a NO BRAINER that Goff can get to the WS from Bama easier than from Ruston, simply because the SEC will get at least 10 auto-bids every year. Once you're in, anything can happen.
Probably the same thinking with White going to Florida besides $$-easier to get to Big Dance in March thru SEC.

I've never understood this line of thinking. Don't we want our former coaches to be successful at the highest level because it's a recruiting tool for Louisiana Tech? I understood not wanting Dooley to win. He was a jerk. But Dykes, White and now Goff all did good things to elevate our programs and were good members of the Tech/Ruston community while they were at our school. If they all go on to win national championships, that's great for Louisiana Tech. It shows you can win in Ruston and be rewarded. I'm all for that.

    Re: Goff to Alabama

Goff came here, built his career and left after two years to make more money- nothing more nothing less. No need to praise Alabama's baseball coach now. Sorry you don't understand that.

Help recruiting? How so? Give me an example of how Skip Holtz can use Sonny Dykes success to help him get a guy.

Anybody who wants to continue being friends with them, great, but what they do now (good or bad) has no bearing at all on LaTech.

Sorry, I didn't mean help recruiting as in get athletes. I understand how that connotation could be drawn. What I meant was help recruiting as in continue to attract good coaches to continue moving the program forward.

IMO, it's the LaTech "it" factor. We have something most G5s don't have. We have been blessed to get some good coaches at the right times, but imagine where we'd be now if...

DR had not hired Jerry Stovall
DR had not hired Jerry Loyd
DR had not taken a nap after he declared "we've arrived" in the WAC
DR had not allowed our facilities to go to crap
DR had not kept Bicknell for so long
DR had not kept Jim Oakes so long
DR had not insisted on keeping Sim so long
DR had not prohibited fund raisers from calling on certain donors
DR had not promoted BVDV to AD

Throw Kim Robertson in there too if you wish.

He set us back years, kept us out of C-USA for years and played his fiddle the whole time.

I certainly agree with this. What Golf does from now on simply doesn't affect Tech in anyway.

    Re: Goff to Alabama

I'm always trying to look ahead ot the next thing, or our next problem. In this particular case, will Goff's move to Alabama hurt our chances to recruit the Mississippi JC's?? Geographically, he'll now be right on their doorstep. Will Goff continue to recruit jucos (his past hallmark) when he's at Bama, or will he be able to recruit mostly HS kids now that he's in the SEC? Do SEC schools embrace Juco's the way G5's do?

    Re: Goff to Alabama

Then don't post a list of crap meant to impune DR on a thread about our losing Goff. YOU said, "imagine where we'd be now if..." If what Maddawg? Huh, if what? If DR had not been prez of Tech we'd be in a position to not lose Goff to Bama!!?? Really?

I don't have a reading comprehension problem. YOU have a problem with DR.

If we hire Ostrander, he's got a much longer history with Mississippi JCs. And I doubt Goff will use the JC route as a long-term strategy in the SEC.
