Isabella: New proposal would give Tech more options to stream sporting events

As McClelland explained, national TV might not be interested in a midweek baseball game against UL Lafayette, but if Tech produces it, packages it and sells it, the revenue could be worth it in the long run.

I like it. Have Learfield pay Freeway Dave like a Full-time employee and he can do play-by-play for all espn3 games - the wku guys do radio and tv at same time if you watched the FCS basketball game. Kramer can pick up the slack when Dave is calling another game.

Man, I'd really like that to happen! I listened to a lot of games this year. Being able to stream would be great for the games i can't make.

Des Moines Register? Slow news day?

Streaming every game. Wow. This is what we should've started when all-access cable channels were alive in the 1980s. (And, yes, we had the capabilities). "But, but, it'll hurt local attendance."

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If we televised EVERY local game way back when (via tape delay, or today, streaming) we would have already been ahead of the game with a revenue stream.

Re: Isabella: New proposal would give Tech more options to stream sporting events

It really is a shame that I can catch Northwest Central North Dakota State's ultimate frisbee team in high quality streaming online but I can't find ANY Louisiana Tech game to save my life. This will be a welcome change.

Y'all go to YouTube Live every so often. In all seriousness, you can get a lot of college baseball, non-revenue generating sports galore (bowling is well represented including collegiate competition) and some of the world champtionship events for Olympic sports (caught curling a while back) and some other oddball things (climbing, biking, table-tennis, darts, BMX racing etc). I even caught the amateur Van Cliburn competition online in the last week or so. You can even catch professional ultimate. One of the leagues has their championship coming up in early July.

People who are out there promoting their sports are using this outlet. If you aren't you are simply leaving fan involvement at the table. Somebody else will be glad to fill that gap.

Oh the irony, right? We always play the "chicken or the egg" --- to TMo's point, had we gambled on it back in the day, perhaps maybe, JUST MAYBE, we would have a larger share of the casual fan base who prefers to sit in front of the TV and pretend they went to school in Baton Rouge. No, they don't get to Tiger Stadium very often, but they became revenue-generating fans watching them on tv every game...same with many Cubs fans. Casual fans spend their money on teeshirts, caps, and porch flags too. We missed that boat back then, but maybe we can get a few of them now.

We are just so far behind -

I still remember the days before twitter and the infancy of facebook that BB&B VOLUNTEERED to do play-by-play updates on the site from basketball games (for folks like Dogswin and others) and we were denied access from doing so because they felt it would infringe upon broadcast rights -

We would provide computer and man power, all we need was an internet connection -

Jim thought it was not a very good idea...

Which is what some of you do now for us who aren't at the game or can't get it on TV and it is much appreciated.

McClelland noted Tech doesn't have a broadcasting school to pull workers from, but a pool of 12,000-plus students to pull from does exist.
    Opportunity may be knocking.

They used to stream baseball and basketball games with NOBODY ANNOUNCING THE GAME. Those were fine, as long as they didn't start knocking the cameras around or go to the "floor cam" where you couldn't see a darned thing but the referee's back.

Heck, put Dwayne and Joey behind the mike, I don't care.

...on second thought, let me have a few moments to reflect on that last statement a little longer.
