Yeah- so Dwayne, Joey, and Monty are out.

You don't need a broadcasting school. People put together great broadcasts on the internet all the time with tools they download for free (or pay a small amount for) and with a minimum of hardware. As they get more popular they get better tools. My own kids make 4K video productions to show the family all the time that are surprisingly good.
Dude Perfect is a great example of this.
Heck hire the Grambling TV production students (and their professor/cameraman). Fox, ESPN, ASN, etc. have been doing it for the past few years.

I know that. I work for one of the world's foremost leaders in video technology. But using the technology is beside the point.
Actually, this is one situation where I wish LA Tech already had a broadcast TV journalism school with the resources to do TV broadcasting. We would already have some people on staff with knowledge of TV Production and the network TV industry. Then we could turn this "sports broadcast" project over to the broadcast school and tell them to just package it up and make it happen.
Maybe we should just hire your kids.
The sad fact is that with the broadcast media between Shreveport & Monroe, this should have happened years ago. Tech should have been smart enough to initiate broadcast journalism back then. Students would pay for it, the broadcast could be sold & there are enough professionals to teach it. This could have been a "pet project" for some of the local media owners. When you have a degree program with some of the broadcast journalist we could hire locally and put the Shreveport/Monroe & possibly a few of the other local markets together, we comprise a fairly large market. Watching the establishment sports channels screams that they need more content. Problem is that they are not willing to pay for the roadrunners vs the mean green.
Tech does have a national reputation, even more so than most people living within 100 miles of Ruston understands. We just suck @ marketing & making quality decisions regarding marketing. Just like not procuring a large "corporate sponer or three to place their names on the Joe, TAC or PP Park. This is opportunity lost due to lack of marketing.
We will NOT have a broadcast degree unless the Board of Regents approve it. They won't cuz GSU and nlulm already have them.
We were lucky to have a print journalism program alone. The Regents tried to take THAT away and the statewide reputation of J-Dept. head Wiley Hilburn blocked it.
In the 1970s we had a small broadcast program (one class) through the speech department, but that's as far as the Regents would let it go.
PS-Hilburn's reputation was so strong he did get HD a job after journalism school.

Yes, I remember the TV studio facilties we had way back in 1969. I really didn't know it they were set up in Madison or the education building. It may have been in the speech department but I believe the education majors used it, too. We thought we were going places back then.

So true. For the last 15 years, some of us have been asking LA Tech to try to sell the "Naming rights" to JAS. Many schools do it. Apogee acquired the naming rights to UNT's stadium in Denton back in 2011.

Brighthouse Networks acquired the naming rights to UCF's stadium in 2006.

And "Kabal" --a video game maker-- gave CAL $18M for a 15-year naming rights deal for the Bears' stadium.

And THIS is the problem with Louisiana's politics. The Board of Regents in the UoL system are too stupid to cut my lawn. Anybody stupid enough to throw good money at GSU & ULM instead of LA Tech is too dumb to serve on the board of directors of a nudist colony, much less a state board of regents.
