#81 among 11 Southern states. #122 among 50 states. Well, that does look better than being #392, but doesn't really change the point.

And...tch, tch....how petty and envious can you be? It is most unbecoming and not reflective of true blue Tech supporters. We don't have to poo-pooh other schools' accomplishments. We know that, overall, Tech is the best school in Louisiana. How insecure are you?

I didn't want to mention this, but I suppose I have to. Many times, and I do MANY times, some poll/survey is posted on this board where Tech is ranked this or that, ya know, top 100 in the nation in some category, or whatever. Then we get the predictable "woo-hoos!" in the thread. But....MOST of the time, if not ALL the time, those polls are based on self-reported numbers. Yep....it is true. A school can make themselves look as good as they want to. Now, sometimes, a poll will take numbers that have been reported from schools, published stats, and use that data, w/o consulting with the school, and then develop a ranking based on some criteria. So, yeah, YOU should read about the rankings before drawing some ridiculous conclusions.

So, for instance, if some publication wanted to determine which programs offered the highest quality education vs. costs that would be the criteria by which they would produce their ranking. Ya know the most "bang for your buck." Well, in the case of the undergrad degree in Allied Health, NSU ranked 9th nationally. It's not something NSU did, proactively, to get ranked. But, apparently some people are so INSECURE they feel threatened by another school being recognized. That is pitiful. Tech Nation is better than that. We can stand on our own accomplishments....they speak for the quality of the university.

If possible I would split it out into 4-year colleges and community/technical colleges. Without seeing the data, I believe most states have a higher technical/community college per capita, these institutions are cheaper/easier to run and usually every mid to small city has one. I think Louisiana's ratio is very heavy in 4-year institutions per capita which hurts us.

I agree with that assessment. Remember, though that Nichols, LSUS and ULM all started as two year colleges, maybe even UNO and there is still LSUA and LSUE. And in the old days you could get a teaching certificate from Northwestern without a degree. Louisiana did have "trade schools". There was one in Minden and in Natchitoches (no, not Northwestern). I am not familiar with other parts of the state in that regard.

I believe that when the directional schools were founded they were really meant to server the local area. Tech was the only one founded to be state wide. I'm not including LSUBR but the regional LSU's were for regional students -- maybe to feed LSUBR. Now they are all competing for students from all across the state and from out of state because they have to be big.
