    Ruston alcohol ordinance

I remember it being discussed here on BBB. Hope this gets passed.

Ruston ordinance would allow restaurants to serve alcohol 'til 2AM
    knoe.com
Mayor Ronny Walker says this ordinance has been in the works for eight months.
If it passes, restaurants will be allowed to serve alcohol until 2a.m., if they choose to do so.

VOTE ON ALCOHOL COMING IN AUGUST
    Ruston Daily Leader
The suggested amendments would not only set the new closing time but also create a special-events permit that would allow alcohol to be openly consumed during community functions held in public places.
Aldermen will vote on the ordinance Aug. 1. If approved, the ordinance becomes effective Sept. 1.

Besides nightlife for students, it will allow nice restaurants to open in town.

Nice restaurants are open until 2 in the morning? Or did I miss something? Bars, honky tonks and dives are open until 2 in the morning. It's not that I don't like bars, honky tonks and dives (I've been to a few). I guess "clubs" would be a nicer term.

That hasn't been a Ruston problem in years.

How many students do we lose to Lafayette and Monroe because we shut down bars at 12:00?

I think it brings opportunities of making downtown Ruston more of a college town (ie Dickson St, 6th Street). Also, kids dont start partying till 10pm.

That's if they know they have till 2:00am. They start earlier if they know they shut down at 12:00.

So now students won't have to leave at halftime anymore to meet their minimum required drinking amount before closing time.

Finally a valid reason to serve until 2am.
