Having been to Fayetteville, AR on Dickson Street there's a mix of regular to upscale bars/restaurants which all stay open till 2am. Some of the upscale places are Bordino's and Theo's. In recent years, some of the recent spaces have turned into more higher-end eateries and bars.
You're focused on alcohol sales after Midnight. My focus is on the extra revenue that would be generated to convince investors, lenders or chains to invest in Ruston. Even if it's a very small amount of revenue, it might be enough to meet a revenue benchmark in a consultant's report.
Okay. I'm not doubting you, I was just hoping for an example of what's been tried, but turned down in Ruston due to 12:00 closing.
I think what's being described might work in larger areas. Monroe doesn't have nice 2:00 spots, but that could be because it is Monroe.
Thank you. Safety should be the driving force behind the passage of this city ordinance.
It would be interesting to see these stats over the past 20 years between 11 PM and 3 AM:
- how many automobile accidents have happened going to or from Rabb's, San Mig's, and Que Stick
- how many DWI/DUI arrests or other related citations have been made going to or from Rabb's, San Mig's, and Que Stick
- how many people have been hit by a vehicle trying to walk home from Rabb's, San Mig's, and Que Stick
- how many people have died from these happenings
- what other bad things have happened because of the midnight law
I guarantee you the majority of those terrible events would be prevented by selling alcohol til 2 AM in the city limits. That's what this should be about.
I don't know if this is the intent of the current law, but the midnight law does not force college students to go home at midnight. It just pushes them to a further location to party some more. I can't think of a single good reason why this law is currently in place. What purpose does it serve?
The safety issue was also brought up when I-20 opened to Monroe (or at least to Cheniere). It was much safer than old Hy 80 I guess even for drunks.
Tell the truth, how many of you have gone outside the next day to examine your car, hoping it didn't have dents/missing parts?
How many of you have gone outside the next day trying to find your missing car?
Ordinance passed 3-2
Yay! Who were the two nays?
