    N/A

Unless we're talking about the extremes (BCS/Access Bowls for years) on-field success is almost completely unrelated to conference realignment.

There are a million examples. Colorado/Tulane/Memphis/Temple/SMU/Rice/UTEP/UNC-Charlotte/Maryland/etc

For every TCU or Boise or Utah that fought and scraped for years to better its position, there are three large market schools that got got picked based on potential.

Southern Miss went to bowls for a zillion years in a row, and Tulane and Memphis and SMU were the AAC picks last go around.

    Re: Realignment again?

What will they be looking for?

    New Markets
    Market size
    Fan Support
    Budget Size

Cincy has 'em all. Houston lacks new market. Memphis lacks fan support and budget size. Florida teams lack fan support. Colorado State lacks 'em all. Boise has 'em all, but their academics are HORRIBLE. BYU has 'em all.

If it were based strictly on athletics I could see us as a real possibility for the Big 12 and a shoe in to the AAC. Otherwise, we aint got a shot.

You've hit the nail on the head.

Because it is not only not based strictly on athletics, but athletics is such a small part of the consideration, we ain't got a shot (well, no shot at Big12, almost no shot at AAC - since in that case some of the other factors like geography, which admittedly is barely a consideration any more than on-field results, might come into play depending on who they were replacing).

Keep in mind, Memphis' budget is $43 million. When they're winning, they've filled the Fedex Forum. Attendance at the Liberty Bowl last year was more than 43,000. USF lacks fan support, but UCF does not. When they've won they have tremendous support in Orlando. Colorado State is in Ft. Collins, within the Denver TV market, the 17th largest in the country. Colorado State is also about to break ground on a new on-campus stadium. And BYU does have em all, but the question is will they play any spring or olympic sports on a Sunday?

The "Tech has no chance" discussion that I keep reading on many forums and articles upsets me. Regardless of whether or not we "have a chance" because of issues like budget or attendance, we should be pushing hard to communicate our strengths. You will never achieve something unless you consistently try your hardest.

Agreed, but some of us don't feel good with our AD leading this thing. A guy who can't put a football sked together and can't carry on a conversation with a stranger is not what we need.

    Re: Realignment again?

Some of us were around long enough to see us passed over by some horrible programs in big markets with fewer fans than us too. I know the game, and unless it has changed to a merit-based system, we aren't what they are looking for. Same deal as bowl-selections... how many fans do you have and how much can we profit from you?

Thanks. I didn't consider $43M big for Memphis. I was talking football attendance. I've never seen one of their non-SEC regular season games heavily attended, but I don't catch every one of them on TV.

    Didn't realize that about UCF.

I actually meant to put Colorado State with market. I heard today about the new stadium.

I had figured BYU for football only.

My point was that we are going to have a terrible avg. home attendance to show for this next season!!!

Most fans go to watch the home team, not the opponent. We need to overcome that mentality somehow.

True. If we can get to the UTEP home game with at least a 4 -1 record than our attendance should be very good for that game. Just win and the attendance will take care of itself, weather permitting of course
