Gannett enters the university value game.
Tiggers 1, Tech 2.
Starting salaries of Tulane grads not up there with either.

Where's Grambling & Nicholls St?
What's the actual ROI though?
Of course Gannet has to show LSU above Tech. Money Magazine has us the highest rated in the state.

I do believe they are using slightly different numbers than the other studies. Aren't we always at or near the top on mid-career salaries. Reading it, this looks like they were looking at starting salaries. Not sure if if that made a big difference, but could be part of it. This is still a positive.

The second paragraph links to the study used as the source for the story. That's the something that caused her to place LSU at the top. She used their actual numbers in the story. The study ranks LSU #1 in the state and #109 nationally, while Tech ranks #2 in the state and #123 nationally. This study used starting salaries, tuition and student living costs as the basis for its ranking. We can disagree with the ranking and how it was derived. I think Tech is the best value in the state, and I'm sure you do, too. But this story wasn't biased against Tech any more than other stories that have been printed showing us ranked #1 are biased for Tech.

Yes, but did TNS publish a story about Tech being ranked number 1 in another study?
These are two from last month from a quick Google search:

So if Leigh's story is biased against Tech, those two stories are biased for Tech. This wasn't a News-Star story or a Times story. Leigh Guidry is Gannett Louisiana's statewide education reporter. She is a former colleague of mine at The Town Talk who did an excellent job covering local and higher education there.

regardless - if we are #2 to LSU in everything and carve out our specialites, we are doing better than every other university not named Tulane in this state.
