    Re: Louisiana Flooding

A personal note of gratitude to so many "High and Dry" from all over Louisiana, Texas, and Missouri (those I have met and/or spoken to thru all this) who are answering the call from places like Beulah Church up in Grant Parrish, La Salle Parish Sheriff's Office in Jena, as well as folk from Branson, Mo. and on and on.

Ditto weunice, the neighbor helping neighbor is priceless as well. God bless America, even if we don't deserve it. But, that is what grace is all about.

Where is anyone else ... really (locals and southerners being actively present)? This is such an odd odd event.

When all is said and done, I am convinced this is a top 5 river flooding event in US history given my knowledge of the scope of most US floods. You cannot imagine the scope until you drive through Baton Rouge east of Airline, through Central and then Denham Springs and Walker. I am telling you, it is miles and miles of flooded homes. Thousands of piles of "everything I owned".

I went down there and saw it- it was truly something that is difficult to imagine unless you see it. I hope to get down there again soon, but it is exciting to see our local people(Bossier/Shreveport) collecting money to help and going down to help. I know Loyola HS collected $10k plus in one day on Monday to help Catholic schools down there, and other high schools are doing similar things. This is how it should be done-people pitching in to help each other.

Churches and some religious organizations usually lead in responding to crisis. Thanks for being a part of it.

My mother left St. Michael's to teach at the new Catholic School (Cristo Rey) Three days into their first school year they got 5 feet of rain and lost everything. They are now holding school in the Bon Marche Mall

Man, that stinks! I hope they will be able to get help as well! That certainly is NOT the way you want to start off a new school!

At first they told her, that they would just not reopen this year and start fresh next year since they were so new, but give that they would have to pay all those teachers who left very good Catholic Schools to come there any way. They found a way to work it out.

OT: The worst part about this whole ordeal is that they are gonna have to tear down my great grandmothers house in Central. My mom went into labor with me in the front yard of that house and it was the center of our entire family since the early 60's. A lot of tears have been shed over it, especially mine.
