    Dykes-Cal- U Hawaii-- Sydney Australia

August 27 Cal will play Hawaii in a "home game" in Sydney Australia. How crazy is that. Long ass flight even from LA. Ausies love there Australian rules rugby and make fun of American football. They say we sit for 3 1/2 hours for 10 minutes of action and make fun of our equipment. Not sure who will go to the game

For what it's worth-- the 10 minute action thing is pretty legit-- average play ( action) starts at snap and averages 5 seconds -- 60 snaps = 300 seconds =5 minutes per team . Don't nit pick the stats, varies on type offense but Ausies have a point.

They are great people over there but let them rant about how wimpy/boring our football is. Remind them we love their punters in America

I plan to spend 3-4 weeks in Australia/ New Zealand next March. Top of bucket list ( closing in on 70 and why not)

Both teams have been paid a lot of money for the game and a crowd of over 63,000 is expected.

They will sell out, just like English Premier League does every time they play a practice game in the States. I personally think that Rugby Union is the most exciting of the football sports but its not big here so I don't get to witness many quality matches. The biggest problem with the "Football Family Sports" has always been the regionalizaiton of the game. Between Aussie Rules, Rugby Union, Rugby League, American Football, Canadian Football, Gaelic Football and Association Football, only one transcends boundaries or borders. Basketball, Baseball, Cricket, Soccer, Golf, and even Hockey to a point all have Global appeal beyond the States.

New Zealand is absolutely beautiful. Everything from geysers and thermal mud pools to beautiful mountains right next to the beach. You'll have a wonderful time!

A good friend of mine just recently returned from a trip to New Zealand, where among other things, they swam in a waterfall full of baby seals. That's right. Frigging baby seals in a frigging waterfall. You ain't getting that in Mississippi/Louisiana.

Sorry. Don't get the reference. What does a Manatee have to do with any Oklahoma women?

I'm sorry, I shouldn't be so condescending. No one should speak that poorly of manatees.

amen-spent week in Auckland last year. Went to Hobbittown and some of lord of rings areas. Incredible people -- life is so short--traveling has been a lifetime passion of mine . Spent youth moving from 1 state to another with Air Force father-- I NEVER plan trip during Tech Football season .. people are so sociable in both countries

Visited with my nephew in Anchorage, Alaska a few years ago. They had to keep their garage doors closed to keep out the bears and carried bear "repellant". They had moose in their yard. This was in the Anchorage suburbs.
