Once our #2 DB could have tackled the receiver, but, for some strange reason, slowed up and let him run past. It was like the receiver had the plague or something, and the DB didn't want to get near him! I couldn't believe it! It WAS like the Keystone Cops on defense.
HCSH stays pretty composed on the sidelines, but he let an a couple of R rated words go last night. Thankfully he was not wearing a mic.
He ate on Higgins and several of the receivers last night for, what I assume, were missed routes and bad passes. This is just what I saw on TV.
It will be bad during and after the evaluation. Probably bad on the coaches too.
Honestly, I don't think our defense looks at film. Because they obviously had no clue what was coming last night. As absurd as it sounds, I don't even think Blake Baker bothered to watch Texas Tech's game against Arizona St last week. Otherwise, he and his defense would have been better prepared last night.
During the 1st half, it was obvious that our DB's were told to take a "hands off" approach to the TX Tech receivers, leaving a comfortable distance (or cushion) between themselves and the receivers. Which is exactly the opposite of how you have to play offenses like TX Tech's. Dumb. Very dumb.
I recall one where we had a defender with a straight shot at Mahomes, and he stopped halfway there because Mahomes faked him out and acted like he was going to throw, so he hopped up, and when he landed, he still looked like he hesitated to go after Mahomes... and it just looked bad.
Did y'all see that look on Higgins face on the side lines toward the end of the game (After TT ran down the field)? It was such a focused look that you would have after putting up an elite performance....which is scary for multiple reasons
I think the answer is to model our offense after Texas. Play Higgins between the 20's and put Smith in for Red Zone plays. Mix it up from time to time. But we need to do something different.
