Horrific defense

Strength coach is horrible.

You and I said that in 2013 after Rice made us look like a Junior High team (which was foolish), but Baker has had a bunch of games to prove himself. He's working with 9 new starters, but he has a bunch of Senior transfers over there. We don't seem to be able to slow down a competent spread team. Holtz hoped he could continue the "Manny magic", but I have enough evidence that Blake is no Manny Diaz. Keep him on staff as a Safeties Coach, but hire an old veteran to coordinate the defense.

The missed tackles aren't due to weakness, but a lack of tackling practice. We probably have stronger athletes than we ever have, but their soft because we don't have physical practices. We play like p*&^%i's because we practice that way!

Oh, you really are back on Hester. Tackling is not about strength, but technique. If you grab a guy on the shoulder pads, you'll probably lose. Wrap him up, and you are fine.

No, you play like you practice. If you constantly pull up in practice to prevent injuries....We are soft because we don't have physical practices.

Strength coach has nothing to do with this egg as he is one of the best out there.
The defensive scheme is pure trash. The 3 down linemen rush is useless. Our guys our not breaking down and wrapping up on tackles. They are consistently out of position every single time only to play catch up. They consistently get beat when in man coverage. The defensive coaching is piss poor. Holtz changed the entire team chemistry when he benched Smith for Higgins. This team is no longer balanced as the team you watched in the Ark game.

No. He's just the strength and conditioning guy. Very well respected nationally, has made a drastic impact on our program, and we are very fortunate to have him. One of the best in the business. Tackling is on the head coach primarily (since he hired the defensive coordinator), the defensive coordinator since it's his defense, and the position coach more directly as he is responsible for teaching techniques.
