I don't see the problem. I write off the insurance cost, maintenance, and repairs on my rental properties. I take advantage of the fact that tithes and offerings reduce my taxable income. If I take a loss on an investment, I disperse the effects of that loss over as many years as allowed. What is wrong with utilizing the system that is in place to its fulllest potential?

I think it's clear that I'm not a Trump fan, but there's NOTHING wrong with utilizing the system that's in place to save money. And, remember, it hasn't been proven that Trump did what the NY Times is insinuating that he's done.

Were he articulate and focused on winning, he could turn this on them. But, he won't.

I don't know if he knows the difference or not, but apparently he pays his taxes on his full gross income before donations, insurance, tithes, and other items in his benefits package are deducted. That's what he wants me and Trump to do.

Remember, tax breaks (eg legal writeoffs) are not the same thing as subsidies (eg welfare). Whether you agree or disagree with any one of those 4 things, breaks and subsidies are in different categories. Many (not all) liberals and even some conservatives treat them as conceptually the same. And that causes a lot of problems.
