Fire! Fire! Fire........ I'm beginning to think some of our posters watched way to much Beevis & Butthead while attending La Tech.
I don't totally blame Baker...some of our LBs and lineman are so slow. UMASS QB was outrunning our guys all night, and he did not look fast.
Funny
Not defending but wonder how hard it must be losing your "team" of coaches. X woods talked about so many inexperienced starters and we lost safeties coach etc. hopefully they will develop for future--I wish we could keep staff-- not sure firing and have new staff is answer midstream.
Our defense it terribly slow. Bringing the heat is the equalizer.
We had a first round pick, a Freshman All American, several guys make NFL rosters / practice squads and Xavier Woods last year and our dfense was not good.......its worse now. Finger points to one person, DC. Its unfortunate but he CAN NOT learn on the job. He is not LEARNING crap!
Our DC is simply not up to the job. It happens in life. I've made the mistake of elevating individuals to positions that they could not master before too. Whenever it became obvious that I'd made a mistake, I rectified it by either demoting that individual (if he can handle such a demotion properly), or I let him go. That's how these kind of situations are supposed to be handled. Baker is probably a good guy. He just isn't DC material. The sooner Skip accepts the reality that he made a mistake, the sooner we'll get better on defense. I've honestly never seen a worse performing defense than this one at Tech.
The defense is bad, don't get me wrong, but I've seen worse here. Our bad defense looks even worse because of equally bad kick coverage. And Baker should have been demoted after last year. All that I'm asking (for all the good that does) him to do is have a top 100 defense. That's it. We have that and we win CUSA without breaking a sweat. That's a pretty low bar that he's somehow managed to limbo under.
He is under.
Our defense is at 95.
Thats after playing total offense teams #2 Texas Tech, #6 Middle, #33 Western, and #41 Arkansas.
Our #4 offense will win C-USA w/out breaking a sweat by scoring more points. Our defense can and will continue to hold teams under 30, but if our special teams are allowing 14 points per game our offense needs to score even more.
Total points we're tied at # 108 with ULM and total yards we are 109 according to ESPN. And don't leave out the other offensive juggernauts we've played like UTEP and UMASS. With decent kick coverage those numbers improve which is why I said it's not the worst defense I've seen here. I don't know how much more you can ask of your offense when they're already near the top in nearly every category. They will score 40+ every game, which should be all you can ask of any offense. I'm sure after playing the likes of F_U, NT and UTSA he'll manage to land softly in the low 90's range defensively and ole Baker will get to keep his job one more year.
What defensive ranking were you using? Just curious if my numbers are right.
