We just need better coordinators who are allowed to coach, then HCSH can concentrate on ST. Not really sure how our OC is though, just never hear anything about him, doesn't that seem kind of strange?

We led the nation in takeaways and points off of TOs that year under Diaz. And, while that is fine....if you can do that consistently...it is not the best way to be effective on defense.
This year's defense has been better than the past two years for sure, and better than most of our defenses going back to the early '90's. We have lost two games while holding opponents under 25 pts. In 2015 and 2016 we would have smoked USC and UAB to the tune of 42-17 and 45-23. (with this defense and those offenses)
This year's team would lose to that same Navy team we beat in the bowl, 31-14. Our defense would have kept us in it until they wore down in the 4th qtr. The problem in 2017 is we suck on offense. Period.
Sucking on offense doesn't make us not suck on defense. That's a weak excuse. It might be true, but its weak. The solution to a terrible defense is not to have a top shelf offense. Why can't we have good play on both sides?
Exactly! Just think what he could do with the talent we have now. Ferguson might as well be standing on the sideline. Find a way to get our playmakers loose.
South Carolina hung 48 on Arkansas today. How did the Cocks do against our defense? I forget...how much did they score? Anyone?
Our defense is not Bama. They are not super great. But they have been playing well all year, and deserve a better fate than a struggling 3-3.
The offense is the problem.
Offense and special teams today. COYHCSH is a HORRIBLE special teams coach. Always has been.
How is giving up 23 points poor defense? We lost this game because inexplicably Barnes, who is very reliable, pushed two extra points that the referees turned into FGs for absolutely no reason. Then, the FG was blocked by an illegal play, though a good effort by UABs defense. But, you can't take a running start and climb a teammates back to block a FG. Also, picking up flags on two personal fouls against UAB didn't help. I have never, ever seen a personal foul called and then say forget about it. Also, the PF called against Tech when a great punt flipped the field going out of bounds on UABs 29 was absolute nonsense. We played poorly, but should have won the game. And no, I'm not blaming the refs, but the differential in penalties enforced were statistically improbable.

UAB had 366 total yards. Most on the ground. Nobody is saying that is great.
That is simply not the reason we lost today. The D did a good enough job to win the game in the last 4 games, we just can't take advantage of it.
Conference Championship Game? Go home, you're drunk. The only way we go to that game is as a spectator.

that's true!! This team getting to 6-6 will be a minor miracle. We are pitiful.
But at least the defense will be #129 this year instead of #130 so the sunshine pumpers will be happy.
Games tonight keep going the way they are only UNT will be ahead of us in the West. USM is currently ahead of UTSA 21-13.
