Best football season ever?

I have been a Tech fan for almost 50 years and I cannot say which of the years was my favorite. Too many memories. My senior year was memorable (1968 football season) even though we didn't even win the conference. But I went to seven games including our first ever Bowl - the Grantland Rice (Ice) Bowl. There have been many as good since then and probably some better. I used to think nothing could beat Terry Bradshaw throwing the bomb to beat Northwestern, but Stallworth's game winner to Cangilosi is now the one to beat.

2001 the year we won the WAC at home beating ranked Fresno State - goal posts down!

We won the WAC in Tulsa that year, and we LOST at Fresno St that year. But we beat Boise State.

That Fresno game when they were #16 in the country and there was the pre-game brawl was sometime between '03 and '06 while I was at Tech. Still have the signed first down marker from that game.

I've been watching LA Tech football since 1978. Can't pick "the best one". All of these were great, as well as 2001. When we finally go to an Access Bowl game though (regardless of whether we win or lose that game) it will become "the best one".

The 2016 season is the best. In 2016 LA Tech has a very realistic chance to......

* Finish our regular season with a 9-3 record
* Win a CUSA championship game on national TV on ESPN
* Play in our 3rd straight bowl game
* Finish our entire season with 10 (championship game) or 11 (bowl game) wins, and ranked in the national Top 25


Since moving to FBS in 1989, LA Tech has never done all of these things in a single season. This year can end up being very special. Make sure you don't miss it.

There are sentimental reasons to appreciate this season or that one but 2012 was the year when people outside of this region were discussing LaTech football because it was relevant. I know we fizzled down the stretch but the buzz leading into the meltdown along with the top 20 ranking is more than any team accomplished before or after.

It was a fiasco because we had so much national attention throughout the season. We had Orange Bowl officials at our home game against Utah State. Never in LaTech history has there been that type of national exposure.

Best 3 year period in TECH football history was 1971 to 1973.

National championship and many of the players went pro. Given it was in Division 2 but we dominated.

1990 was a GOOD year---winning season and exciting bowl game (though we tied)

1984 was a GREAT year! National finals in I-AA was a GREAT RIDE!

Though I was too young to remember, the 2 x Division II national championships in the early 1970s (72 and 73) were probably the BEST years! We lost ONE game in TWO years, and word has it that the single loss was due to home cooking up in Fayetteville. A number of pro and NFL players on that team. Quarterbacked by Denny Duron, WR Roger Carr, D lineman NFL Hall of Famer Fred Dean!

Tim Rattay's 9-2 and 8-3 years were also GREAT years, but we were ROBBED by the bowl world and got stung with no post season---just like 2012.
