Good analysis. That solves our individual problems of finding and watching Tech games.

But....(you KNEW there would be a "but", haha!) assuming we DON'T get access to the SEC network --or something similar-- how do we (and schools like LA Tech) EXPAND our customer base (e.g., CUSA fan base) past our own small network of fans that we already have now? One of the huge advantages of an "ESPN" --or some similar TV network-- is that they show our product to millions of non-LA Tech fans in every market. I was in a bar one night in downtown Chicago, looked up, and there was LA Tech and Boise St playing on the bar's TV. How do we replace that?

So, in this climate, how do we (and other schools like us) "go to market" to expand our current base?

The alternative would look something like this:

Saturday 2:30 PM vs. South Carolina State on ASN
Tuesday 7 PM vs. UTEP on FS1
Wednesday 7 PM vs. WKU on FS1
Friday 7 PM vs. Rice on CBSSN
Saturday 11 AM vs. UTSA on FSN

Fox likely offered C-USA around $7 million/year for us to play a schedule like that, but it wasn't worth it.

Could LA Tech --as one of the top 2 or 3 brands in CUSA-- petition CUSA for a bigger piece of the TV revenue pie? I know there's not much TV revenue there, but schools like FAU, FIU and a couple of other schools are nothing but a drag on the conference and have no broad appeal. Seems to me the conference would want to keep the better programs happy.

I agree...... I wonder what the tv numbers look like in comparison. I don't think anyone watches or cares about the FU's of the world, compared to USM, La. Tech., Marshall, and maybe Rice in some years. We have the names that draw attention from a broader base than just the population in the local area.

Because Conference USA's old TV deal expired.

Remember C-USA turned down a TV deal with Fox Sports. C-USA could've landed many more games on TV for a lot more money if C-USA's board would've agreed to Tuesday and Wednesday night games on FS1 and Saturday games at 11 AM on FSN. C-USA told Fox, "Thanks, but no thanks," and I applaud the decision (although I think a good commissioner would've been able to work out a nice compromise with Fox). The increased TV exposure and money isn't worth killing our fan base with midweek games and morning kicks. Ultimately, our fans in the stands should be prioritized over fans watching on TV. Now we get Saturday 6 PM kicks (when college football is supposed to be played), which is best for fans who can attend.

Then ASN significantly expanded its inventory beyond C-USA and thus decreased its C-USA inventory. CBS Sports Network did the same by adding AAC, MWC, and MAC games to its portfolio and reducing its C-USA inventory. Meanwhile SLC games run every week on a Shreveport station.

The handful of C-USA games added to the ESPN family wasn't enough to make up for all those losses.

I agree with the decision to say no thanks to a bunch of early-week and mid-week games. But our number of games available on various satellite sports networks with the broadcast provided by ASN has declined significantly this year.
