Fox has us vs South Carolina in the Independence Bowl. I personally like this better the the NOLA bowl vs Belch, thoughts? http://www.foxsports.com/college-foo...-mandel-110116

Indy would be ok if it were vs an opponent like South Carolina. Hopefully the whipping we give them in basketball is still fresh!
I would take NO or Dallas over Shreveport - much better times in those two locations
LA Tech vs South Carolina in the Indy. I like this matchup much better than meeting a Sunblech opponent in the NO Bowl.
Any bowl game vs a P5 is better than any bowl game vs a G5. Heck we sell ourselves for any price to try to host a P5, so LA Tech vs S. Carolina in Shreveport is a NO-BRAINER decision!
Generally speaking playing a P5 trumps a G5 in most of our bowl scenarios. The only exception might be getting to played a Top 25 ranked G5, like this year a Western Mich, a Houston, maybe our old friends at Boazy State, over some 6-6 P5 team. The litmus test, always, should be playing the best possible opponent, and not so much worrying what bowl that happens to be.
In this particular case, yes, playing any SEC team in the Indy Bowl is an attractive possibility. I'll be there.
With an SEC opponent we may even get the Times to have a story or 2.
I can see it too...
South Carolina playing in the I-Bowl, member of the Lord's own S...E....C...
(meanwhile, buried in paragraph 1,526...Mighty SEC's victim will be some school just down the road.)
Maybe it will be our second game to play there this year.
I did qualify my position by stating playing a Top 25 G5 > a 6-6 P5.
With the conference tie-ins it's probably impossible for us to be matched up with a ranked G5, so it's a moot point. But, if circumstances allowed it, beating the tar out of an unbeaten, or once-beaten, and ranked Western Michigan, for instance would garner more national attention than whipping a 6-6 weak-sister SEC, Big 12, or other P5 team. There wasn't a whole lot said about our whipping Illinois.
But, a P5 trumps an unranked G5, even if that G5 is in fact, a better team.
Heck! given our history of missing out on bowling, I'm thrilled to be having a discussion like this!
