The Dimmwits (and even the RINOs) are running scared big time. That is why the NYT felt it needed to run its 10,000-word gaslighting factually-inaccurate multi-page mostly editorial hit piece today.
If they thought they had the evidence, they would be inviting Trump in so they could skewer him. But they know they don't have the goods to contend with what Trump is going to bring.
There is almost no chance they get the votes. You're right about that. It'll probably be a slightly better final vote than the usual straight-party line of most historical impeachments, but not enough.
And you're also right that it probably doesn't matter who the legal team is, the decisions have already been made.
I'm not totally sure there isn't a good reason to move forward with it politically (and I'm totally convinced it's legal and all that), but I really doubt the votes are there.
Impeachment is always political (it's not a criminal trial after all), but per usual the politics trump (no pun intended) the facts.

Interesting! And probably very true.
'It would become the biggest tourist attraction in the country'

Talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh on Tuesday explained why establishment Democrats and Republicans are so terrified of President Trump.
It's gotten so bad that a Washington Post columnist even urged Congress to deprive him of a presidential library.
But the Washington "swamp" has to discredit him because they fear what he represents: "an uprising of the people of this country against Washington, against the establishment," Limbaugh told his listeners.
The movement has been building since Ross Perot's run for president in 1992, he said.
"Oh, yeah, it predated Trump. The Tea Party was part of this. Trump was just the first guy to come along and actually weaponize it, in a political sense," he explained. "But the Trump movement existed before there was Trump, and then he built it and grew it to the point of 75, 74 million voters."
In fact, there are indications that Trump's popularity has been growing since he left office.
Limbaugh said the "same cabal" that pushed the debunked Russia-collusion claims against Trump are pushing the second impeachment.
And they are "doing everything they can," because, he said, they fear him and what might happen if he were to return to politics.

It is not only the right, but the responsibility of the people to change their government. - Thomas Jefferson
As we see again the Founding Fathers were brilliant. Clearly it is time...past time...for the people to change the government...both federal and states'. Of course, I mean to drain The Swamp, to return it to a strictly Constitutional, smaller, more effective/efficient government where officials actually serve the people, not the other way around. And yes, times have changed so Jefferson and the other FFs could not fully envision every aspect of what the future would hold, and what "we the people" would require of our government. But, they did put into a place a framework whereby the general principles would still prevail.
$30 trillion in debt....a tyrannical federal government, now allying with dangerous entities and foreign operatives to undermine the freedom of the American people. It is time.
When people fear the government you have tyranny, when the government fears the people you have liberty.
"...and government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the Earth." - Abraham Lincoln
Now do you see why the globalists want to discredit American heroes like Jefferson and Lincoln, and others?
Who has discredited Lincoln and Jefferson now?
