I can agree these are some absurd corners we're painted into.

. Although I would have said the same thing about Guisslapp not that long ago and he has moved hard to the left since Trump was elected
    He really hasn't.

The propaganda has been significant and constant against Trump since he announced his candidacy. It's no wonder that even some conservatives have been taken in by it.
Or … just consider the possibility … that it's actually legit. Or at least some fair portion of it.

You got nowhere to go then unfortunately. You have the left railing against the cultural and economic elite and the right railing against the political elite and news media. Bad times at the Guisslapp house I guess.

I probably am a populist even though it is a derogatory label and most of the time it is used on people bringing economic collapse and socialism. I think all of those entities don't have the best interests of the common people in mind for a significant portion of their decisions. It's not a super effective ideology though as you can't effectively fight them without becoming them to an extent.

I have never had a political home which is why I have always been independent. Historically, I have just voted for the third party candidate most aligned with my principles and policies...until Trump came along. I then knew I had a duty to try to stop someone that posed and existential threat to America.

    Re: President Trump

On a national level (or state level) we don't get to pick a candidate based on our core beliefs. We are forced to go with the best option for what we believe to be best or closest to our core beliefs. Some will always allow their hate for a candidate to override their rationale or even their core beliefs . Example: Trump is not presidential, Trump tweets too much, Trump has bad hair...

The one that has bothered me the most is the one that got us this HORRIBLE governor we have now in Louisiana. I have many friends who hated Vitter enough to vote for a POS like Edwards. Vitter was by far our best choice. He lost because he was not liked. I didn't like him either, but I knew when Edwards started that "honor guard" crap, he was a snake oil salesman. Add to that that my fellow conservatives KNEW Edwards was going to approve Medicaid expansion. They voted for more welfare because they did not like Vitter.

He certainly has on some things, or he always held a more left stance than I gave him credit for.
You have to consider the possibility that a fair portion of it is legit. They are generating so much smoke that you have to think there is fire. Unfortunately or fortunately once you dig into it there is very little substance there, just more rabbit holes to go down. You can keep going deeper and deeper hoping you find something or you can realize they are full of crap and get out. The little sparks they actually do uncover are hardly worth the time.

Edwards- Vitter was the first time I refrained from voting because I couldn't pick between two bad candidates. For Trump-Hillary I voted third party because I couldn't bring myself to vote for the two main candidates. I wish I could truly pick my political representatives, but until then I have decided that it's better to hold my nose and vote for the candidate that will promote the policies more aligned with my political beliefs. Pretty much anything short of Duke-Edwards and I am picking a candidate.

Vitter was not a bad candidate. He was a much disliked person. The guy is a politician who could have fixed things that Jindal screwed up. Edwards had never done anything at all in his entire career.

    Re: President Trump

The left wing loons treated Bush the same way they've treated Trump. The big difference is that Trump hits back at them and it makes them mad as hell. Gooslip is a very good example of that. I'm 100% behind Trump and I expect him to win in 2020 by a landslide. Trump has pushed the democrats so far to the left that they don't have a chance of winning the vote of the average working citizen. As far as those 4 women go that are calling Trump anything that they can think of, you won't hear anything from them after the 2020 election. Their favorability in the districts they represent has dropped below 10% mainly because they have done nothing for the people they represent.

The Democrats are really going to be upset when Horowitz report comes out and Durham and Barr start indicting the crooks that tried to take Trump down. Gooselip may have a heart attack.

Hence my recent "honest question", above.

I never voted for Obama. I shared some of his positions, but his dramatic expansion of the surveillance state was a deal-breaker for me. (I have it on good authority that Guiss never voted for BHO either.)

You forgot mob boss. But those are largely side issues, at least for me. We've had cruel presidents before, and we've had stupid presidents before. And I can think of at least one other cruel, stupid president. But what concerns me most about this administration is the wanton disregard for the rule of law, and the (seeming) inability of his own party -- a party I had once grudgingly respected -- to call it out.

Somebody is about to ask me for examples of Trump flouting the law. Guiss has already posted dozens. Let us agree instead that there's no link I can provide that won't be dismissed as an illegitimate source, yet I remain convinced to my own satisfaction.
Trump would’ve been impeached by now if he had broken any laws. The Clinton democrats working for Mueller couldn’t even find anything.

I can’t wait to hear Mueller explain why he kept his investigation going long after he knew there was no collusion.

I don't know what you're reading, but it sure as hell isn't any post of mine. You even have to make up new falsehoods to try and get your empty win. Leftist? Only to your extreme right. Communist? Never. Anti-American? My life has been dedicated to public service for America since the day I was born and will to the day I die. POS? Yeah, I can be sometimes. Usually only to myself, though.

Tune it out all you want, the facts will still remain that racist statements are racist statements.

You can take your fake Christianity, your fake conservatism, and your fake support of American ideals and shove it right up your urethra. You think you are the loudest voice in the room and so that must mean you're right even though you're undeniably, verifiably wrong. But you don't give a damn. As long as you say what your fragile psyche demands of you, nothing else matters.

And of course I am bothered when you lie and summon all your petty and spiteful weakness to denigrate me. Whereas I get mad at lies, you get mad at truth. You exuberantly bask in your ignorance, being as insidious about it as possible; and it is hard to ignore when coming from someone I had respect for that puts themselves up on a golden pedestal as the shining beacon of all things right but momentously fails. Sure, call letting this get to me a personal failing of mine; can congratulate yourself for being right on that one.

I didn't call myself elite. But of course, your reading comprehension has been non-existent for a while now.

But please do keep explaining the soccer world in the "important stuff...." thread. You explain that better than the sports people that are paid to talk about it.

You read that crap from him and call me self-righteous? Same for you. Whatever you're reading isn't mine. Nothing I said is unfounded. In general, I do not consider myself morally superior. To what some have become today, though? Absolutely, I am.

And don't buy-in to lies. I'm not a leftist. I'm only left of him (and I guess you) because he (and I guess you) is so far right that most of humanity that has lived or ever will live is to the left of him (and I guess you).

Not being an ideological pure blood does not make me less of or opposite of what I am.

I don’t recall ever calling anyone on BB&B a racist. I haven't even called Trump a racist. I have said he and others here have supported racist statements made by Trump (or others) and tend to make their own.

Your words shout “I am better than you.” I understand though, it wouldn’t be hard to start thinking you were smarter than everyone else living in Massachusetts. After all, they’ve supported Ted Kennedy and Elizabeth Warren, a murderer and a fraud, respectively.
