You can’t pick one thing and say that it is evidence that everything is good or bad. A good stock market index doesn’t mean everything is great. Low bond yields doesn’t mean it’s bad. You have to look on the whole. More people are doing better now than before Trump. Are there still poor, yes, but even those people have on average are better off. Now it’s time to cut the fat on the state and federal level.

Financial markets are FORWARD looking, pricing in the risks of what is to come. Bonds and stocks have been a bit at odds over the past year, but both are now signaling a coming recession. In other words, for worst is yet to come.

“Cutting the fat” is the exact opposite thing you do when fiscal stimulus is needed. This should have been done when things were going well. But Trump was more concerned with throwing gas on an economy that was already hot.
