I have no sympathy for Harley Davidson, and most of you know I've been riding Harley's for more than 20 years. They have long charged far too much for everything. And it's the only business I know that accepts literally no returns (e.g., if you buy your wife a T-shirt and it doesn't fit, they won't let you bring it back.) If they think manufacturing HD motorcycles in Thailand is the answer, they will fail. Harley is supposedly all about "buying American". So much for "made in Thailand.
It's a return to the AMF days.

I own and ride a Dyna (that whole line has been discontinued), but absolutely despise that they still use air cooled engines that slowly cook themselves in heavy traffic.

If the hard bags were not so butt ugly on the Kaw Nomad, I'd have that instead. Not a big fan of that stretched look on the newer Honda cruisers, either.

Millennials seem to be into sport bikes, but I suppose that will change when their middle-aged gut keeps them from cozying up to the gas tank anymore.

    Re: President Trump

Trump continues to outshine Obama's disastrous regime.

Results Matter: PRESIDENT TRUMP Tops Obama in Approval Numbers at Same Point in His Presidency

President Trump’s approval rating on his second Independence Day is at 48% with likely voters.

And that is with 90% negative coverage from the far left mainstream media.
And after a month of anti-ICE protests by Democrats President Trump jumped 10 points with Hispanics in the recent Harris-Harvard poll.

    It comes down to results.
President Trump is delivering on his promises.

Since President Trump’s election the DOW daily closing stock market average has risen as much as 44%. (On November 9th, 2016, the DOW closed at 18,332 – in January of this year the DOW reached heights of over 26,500.).

On February 28th, 2017, President Trump matched President Reagan’s 1987 record for the most continuous closing high trading days when the DOW reached a new high for its 12th day in a row!
Under President Trump the DOW set the record for the fastest 500 point increase between major milestones when it reached 26,000 on January 17th. It only took 6 days to increase 500 points from 25,500. As a matter of fact, since President Trump’s election the DOW has set records for the fastest 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 point increases in the DOW’s history!
2017 was the best year ever for the DOW. It increased more points than ever in its history (4,956) and it reached more all-time highs (71) than any year in history!
Every US stock index has reached all-time highs during the Trump Presidency.
And President Trump’s foreign policy is also seeing results.
    History is being made.

Awesome. So you're on board with fighting to get rid of the foreign tariffs that limit our exports?

    I knew you'd come around.

Tariffs have so far gone up under Trump. I don’t know if you have been following the news, but he has started a trade war.

And the data seems to suggest that we didn’t have such a bad tariff problem as Trump claims as our exports were doing quite well before the trade war.

Yeah, I follow the real news.

The fact is that the trade war has been going for some time, only we were not fighting back. You saying he started it is like saying we picked a fight with terrorists after 9/11. He has proposed, to our allies, that we eliminate ALL tariffs...and they were not interested. As the Canadian PM said, he would do whatever he needed to do to protect Canadian business...yet you think we should not do whatever we should to protect American businesses!

Personally, I also think we should protect American standard of living, which includes some sort of labor adjustment on products entering the US as well as stopping the inflow of cheap, exploited labor coming in at at the border and living in the shadows.

Your hate for Trump is clouding your judgment. The US is bigger than Trump, so it's OK for you to be a fan of America....especially on the 4th of July.

So you're OK with letting others decide which of our industries are able to compete (lower tariffs) and those that are not (higher tariffs to protect their own production)?

    Bad old Trump!

Did some googling and found the following:

Because of negotiations with Trump, China has agreed to cut tariffs on imported vehicles from 25% to 15%. But Trump is causing a trade war in your estimation.

The EU currently charges a 10% tariff on auto imports from the US (we have a 2.5% tariff on theirs). But Trump is causing a trade war in your estimation.

China counterfeits and steals US intellectual property to the tune of many billions of dollars every year, in many cases forcing us to work with Chinese firms and give them our technology to have access to the Chinese market (this is that "efficient" job base you were speaking about), but Trump is causing a trade war in your estimation.

Here is a NY Times opinion piece on Chinese steel before they were smitten with Trump Derangement Syndrome. They have dumped cheap, inferior steel on the market for years and virtually destroyed the steel industry (and our capacity to make steel) in the US, which we will need should someone decide they want to go to war with us (and they will as soon as they believe they have a competitive advantage to do so...like having the advantage of knowing we are dependent on foreign made steel). https://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/05/o...-in-china.html

    Re: President Trump

Trump has more knowledge and experience in international business, and its reality, than all these mouth piece libtards combined. I HOPE he/we (as a nation) will tone down the rhetoric and just focus on business. President Trump SHOULD be getting the support of Congress and business leaders in this endeavor. People with legit concerns should express those, and as possible, urge/advise the President in formulating our trade policies. If everyone would adopt a positive attitude and work together, then we will arrive at policies that make sense and actually work.

That's not what is happening....at least that's not what gets the airtime. There is a segment of our country who would rather see the USA go down in flames than do what is right because doing that means cooperating with Trump, and OMG! Trump getting credit!

I have worked in international business, in an admittedly isolated situation with a small import/export company. And, I have had exposure to it when employed by a large Fortune 50 company, and I was involved in international business/trade on behalf of clients as a business consultant. None of that real world experience makes me an expert on US trade policies. But, I had to deal with it and understand it. For instance, had a client selling leather bicycle seats into Brazil. They have a strict and expensive tariff on leather products to protect their domestic leather industry. To avoid those tariffs, which made their seats too expensive, they retooled the seats, using more of other materials, less leather, and classified them simply as bicycle parts. It depends on the NAICS code all products/services are labeled with. This is REALITY! American businesses having to deal with ridiculous trade policies where their competitors have the advantage of BOTH their government and our own US government protecting the foreign interest. In my own personal experience I had to sell to an Egyptian firm, and they mark it up, and then sell it into Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and other countries because of tariffs/fees those countries had (have) on direct imports from the US. We took less profit, but were able to make sales.

You know what is really sad in this particular case!? The money those very nations used to buy our products was (is) furnished by US taxpayers, via foreign aid. Yet! they did not waive tariffs/fees. I had procurement officers I worked with, especially in Turkey, who laughed about it. How STUPID!!! they thought we are. Or....were. Hopefully that kind of crap will change under Trump.

In summary, I know my experience was limited and somewhat isolated. But I saw enough to know the US, American businesses, and Americans in general were getting screwed by trade policies.

Had a flashback, actually it's the Incoterms that are used in international trade to classify products. (my mind is too cluttered with "stuff")
