I think you’re well aware that I’m not giddy. Trump’s leadership in the virus response has been poor, but the market was going to tank with this regardless who was President. This much? Who knows?

It will come back, but I have no idea how long. I’m planning on 18 months or so to be on the safe side personally.

Really sucks for those just about to retire or those who’ve just retired. If they have a good advisor, this was a probability that was planned around.

Nah, had to be Trump.

Maybe too much CNBC, I have never watched MSNBC.

I watched the futures go from being plus 400 to minus 1000 last night with the turn happening during his speech, so “yeah” I am pretty certain the market was disappointed that he didn’t demonstrate more competence.

I have no need to sell anytime soon and I always use these as opportunities to buy my favorite things that get cheaper. Selling has been indiscriminate and lots of the very good and great have been thrown out with the not so good.

Thanks to all the knuckleheads buying up the toilet paper. I had to look all over town today for a pack of paper to prepare for 10 preteen girls to be in my house for a church retreat weekend.

I don’t know. It sure tanked right after the first national address.

You also have to remember that 94% of the money in the market is institutional...meaning that the avg person doesn’t move the market, the institutional managers move the market. That doesn’t mean that those managers can’t be given to panic or emotion, but it’s not the same as if you or I got spooked by something and moved to cash in our retirement accounts.

Yep, ask your broker. The market loved Trump freeing more $$ by declaring a 'National Emergency '. And they are finally glad to see Pelosi/Dems (the party of No and do nothing) and the WH working together. the socialist Dems have been receiving tremendous heat, even by their own moderates (if there is such a thing), for playing pure politics
with this virus.
Likewise I think the declaration of a National Day of Prayer fits this senario as well.

There has been exacerbated movement in the market the last 30 minutes of Friday trading since the sell off begin. Go back and look at the charts. Most of the time it has been folks selling their longs going into the weekend news cycle to reduce their risk to 2 days of negative C19 headlines.

The past 2 weeks have been a massive washout of all stocks (with this week killing bonds and gold too). It appears folks wanted to cover their shorts and take profits now that the downside and upside risks are starting to get balanced. We had TWO massive -2k Dow point days this week. We were definitely oversold on a short term basis.

It was tactical that Trump started his speech at 3:30 eastern rather than at the announced 3:00 time. Normally important announcements are made after the market is closed so that the announcement itself doesn’t create unnecessary volatility.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, in the world according to Goosey, whenever the market tanks it is directly tied to something Trump said/Tweeted. And when the market rebounds and enjoys a bullish day, well, that has nothing to do with anything Trump said/Tweeted.
