personally I think UAB's looks cheap without any walls, air conditioning
We can debate whether it's useful or not (I tend to think it is), but recruits will like having that. I'm not saying we'll start stealing 5 stars from LSU, but in a battle between Tech and a peer, it could be the tiebreaker.
Plus, if the AAC ever comes looking, the better our facilities are, the better our chances of moving up instead of someone else.
LED lights inside TAC.. Yes! Would be a big atmosphere boost, especially with pregame. That should be a top priority for the TAC.
But I think there are a few more things we need at the Love Shack before LED lighting. First, we need a restroom facility for fans watching from behind the outfield fence, especially with the alcohol being consumed out there. Guys have to pee over the railroad tracks or behind the apartments, and the ladies just go home. Next, an indoor hitting facility and a video board. All of those are more important than LED lighting at the baseball field IMO.
Camps and tournaments, too.
Imagine if Tech's big football prospect camp was today or tomorrow during a tropical storm. Yikes! And didn't we lose 2 practices this past Fall Camp due to inclement weather? You could tell Skip was politely lobbying for an indoor practice facility during fall camp by tweeting out all the weather maps and sharing all the practice juggling he had to do.
Indoor practice facilities are also a big part of the bids to host NCAA baseball and softball Regionals and Super Regionals and conference tournaments. The other teams waiting to play have to have a facility to get ready while another game is going on at the playing facility.
Football, baseball, softball, soccer, track & field, and band would all find an indoor practice facility beneficial.
I'm sure there are many other uses, too.
Indoor atheltic facility (not indoor football) is a Title IX point getter. We are all about getting more Title IX points.
I've yet to hear the name of a football player we lost to one of our peer schools because of our "lesser facilities".
The full bowl you are advocating would likely be a very costly project due to the underground creek running under the center of the stadium. I think removing the aluminum wings and building a new permanent stadium structure curving the stands in at the corners to even with each sideline would be a better project short-term. That could easily be done over two off-seasons with one side of the stadium each year along with additional work under the main stadium structures. It would also allow for a full bowl to be completed later if deemed structurally and financially feasible.
The next improvement to JAS should be a renovation to the east concourse to match the renovations to the west concourse: restrooms, TVs, etc.
Forget a useless facade or bowling in the north end zone for now.
That's just it. I'd rather continue spending new money on Joe Aillet Stadium enhancements before spending the same amount of money on one of these cheap IPF buildings that every high school in Collin County Texas has had since the year 2000. (An indoor PF just isn't that big of a deal anymore.)
LA Tech needs to continue spending money on the game day experience areas. Places where our fans, supporters, donors and players can actually SEE THE MONEY AT WORK. JAS still needs new bathrooms, concessions, retail areas, communications/video upgrades, a bowled in north end zone and a ton of brick and motar facade. THESE are the upgrades that most people will see and experience.
Ah hell, put me in the same boat as HD and Champ. No, the world will not end tomorrow! There are a lot of areas to spend money other than an indoor practice facility. When I played the only reason games were delayed was due to lightning..... if it's raining or cold our teams should be practicing in it if they are going to have to play in it....including the band.
