    Cotton Bowl auto bid

will go to one of these five champions:

AAC: Temple (9-3) vs. Navy (9-2)
    C-USA: Louisiana Tech (8-4) vs. WKU (9-3)
MAC: Ohio (8-4) vs. Western Michigan (12-0)
MW: San Diego State (9-3) vs. Wyoming (8-4)
Sun Belt: Appalachian State (9-3), Troy (9-2), Arkansas State (6-5)

Houston and Boise State are out of the running.

An upset in the MAC Championship Game would make things interesting.

This access bowl bid is as achievable for Tech as it ever has been. It's up to us to take care of business to make it happen. If our AD doesn't inexplicably move the Arkansas game for nothing in return, we don't choke in the second half against MTSU, and we do what we were supposed to do against USM, this bid could've been ours for the taking. If WMU loses their title game, we would be two plays and a WTF game from being the favorite to get this Cotton Bowl bid.

Yes we need to take care of business but even if we beat WKU, which is looking very unlikely at this point (since Brohm takes his opponents seriously), It's just going to go to the AAC champ. How is the lucky champ determined?

The CFP committee. And if WMU is upset by Ohio, it will be interesting if Navy beats Temple. Navy still has to play Army. Would the committee wait for that outcome? Or would they just give it to Navy based on their season up to that point?

Honestly, Navy may be the most well rounded team on that list. Our offense is top notch but our D has been suspect even in a league with some bad teams. Can't root against an academy team unless they are directly playing us.

I just can't see Navy not getting it in the event they beat Temple.

Committee would wait until after Army game to decide

I think you're right, but I also think it might throw some of the bowl games into chaos. The bowl season starts on 12/17. If at all possible a decision needs to be made on Sunday.

    from last year

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...plan/75529652/

College Football Playoff committee's contingency plan for Navy

Summary — If the committee believes the result of the Army-Navy game could affect Army's or Navy's ranking and therefore its place in the playoff or its selection as the group of five representative, only the pairings that affect Army and Navy would be delayed until after the Army-Navy game.

Business as usual on Sunday, December 6
    — The committee will rank the teams 1-through-25 and will publicly issue those rankings on December 6 as usual. Army and Navy will be ranked according to their performances to date. If Army or Navy is not in contention for the playoff nor to be the "group of five" representative, the committee would announce all the bowl pairings.

    Bowl pairings announcement December 6
    — If Army or Navy is in contention to be the "group of five" representative, and not for the playoff, the committee would announce the following on December 6: (1) the top 25 rankings, (2) the semifinal pairings and bowl sites, (3) the pairing for one of the new year's six bowl games—either Fiesta or Peach, and (4) one participant in the other new year's six bowl game, holding the other spot in that game for the "group of five" representative. If Army or Navy is in contention for the playoff, the committee would not announce any bowl pairings December 6.

Committee meeting Saturday, December 12, if necessary
    — If Army or Navy is in contention, the selection committee would convene by teleconference Saturday evening, December 12, after conclusion of the Army-Navy game. At that time it would determine if it is necessary to revise a segment of its December 6 rankings relative to Army or Navy and, if necessary, it would revise the rankings accordingly. The committee plans to announce the results on ESPN Saturday night, December 12.

Louisiana Tech choked every single time when it requires to win - 2012, 2014, 2015, and soon to be 2016. We were a better team in all those losses.

From ESPN posted on Wednesday. If Navy wins the Committee will wait until 12/10, even if Western Michigan wins the MAC Championship game. Talk about chaos...

A Temple win against Navy on Saturday would eliminate the Midshipmen from Cotton Bowl contention and allow all of the bowl selections to be announced Sunday. If both Western Michigan and Navy win, sources say the rankings will be delayed.

Lord you are such a BORE!!! 3 years now we are 26-5 over OCT_NOVEMBER .. we win back to back bowls.. No one in their right mind does not understand we are in our third year of success . Explain your definition of " requires to win" .. every game counts ... have you ever posted anything worth reading?? Yeah-- I am absolutely the POLLYANNA of BBB-- 50 years of being a die hog dog and TAG scholarship kind of infers I am an idiot but you hate Tech and your posts show it-- I really think sometimes you are NLU or ULL guy in disguise ... think about 26 wins and 5 losses over last 3 years -- what game does not need to be won to be divisional champ?? time to take my BP med

I think what he's trying to say is, given the title of this thread, is the games in which we've needed to win to be in contention for the Access bid.

Like most on this board I think Skip has done a tremendous job with this program, but I think the frustration with the meltdown games is justified. Games in which we've had second half leads and outplayed teams and just haven't gotten it done. More than that, too often our team has gone into "panic and play not to lose mode" too many times. I know our coaches have tried to rectify it.

In 2014, it was Northwestern State, ODU, and Marshall games. Go back and look at the last minute of the first half of the Marshall game. An entire team in play-not-to lose mode that led to a 10-point swing. And even in the HOD Bowl the same thing was about to happen before Dixon made one of the greatest individual plays in Tech history with the strip turnover of the defender after Sokol's turnover.

In 2015 it was the Western Kentucky, Kansas State and Mississippi State games. This year it was Arkansas and Western Kentucky, when we held on for the win. The Kansas State game is the best example from 2015. Up by 7 in the fourth quarter, we went into a shell. Then after we lost the lead the team drove the length of the field to tie the game and send it into overtime. Had our team just kept playing when we had the lead it would have been a double-digit win.

It all starts with the coaches and filters down to the team. As I said, our staff recognizes this has been a problem and has tried to rectify it.
