Until I saw a few minutes of the game, I didn't even know the school they played existed.

Absolutely true. They don't compete in the FCS playoffs because they suck so bad and got tired of getting their ass beat years ago. Now ESPN has enticed them to play each other in this bowl game that supposedly gives them more money. What I don't understand is, how can ESPN afford to do this when they are losing their shirt?

ESPN can afford anything. It's the HBCU "national championship", so yeah. Same reason the Ivy league doesn't participate in the FCS playoffs. They know they can't compete because their athletes are of a subpar caliber.

Judging by how much coverage they get in North Louisiana, I'd say Tech is LUCKY to be playing in the post season when we have such a storied program overshadowing us just down the road.

That doesn't mean anything.ESPN is important to the media side of Disney, but not a highest priority within Disney. ESPN won't fail in the traditional sense, but it won't be near the juggernaut it was. They're hemorraging customers, money, and employees. Disney is being hurt by ESPN, causing some substantial losses. The saving grace for Disney is their Marvel and Lucasfilm subsidiaries. They're printing money for Disney at a rate that fills the wet dreams of the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing and leftist.
I remember the first time I heard of ESPN, the "Entertainment and Sports Programming Network." They dropped the entertainment part early on and just focused on sports. It was 1979 and our home MBB game vs. Arkie State was being nationally televised. Probably the best crowd in the history of old Memorial Gym. If not the biggest crowd, definitely in the top 5 all time. It was packed to the rafters. The Fire Marshal could have had a field day that night. All the students wanting to get on national TV with their signs saying "Hi Mom" and adding "send soap."
We lost the game.
Grambling did give Arizona quite the tussle earlier this season IJS.
