We appear to be STACKED... hope I'm right
Needed: scholarship worthy punter. Must excel at traditional punting style and suck at rugby style.
It just depends on the sideline to sideline speed and blitzing ability of the LBs.
We appear to be loaded at several positions (DL and WR) and in good shape at several others (QB, RB, OL). The question marks are at linebacker and in the secondary (particularly at safety).
the bold, the beautiful, theprofessor
With this roster and more importantly next years expected schedule I see great things ahead for the Dawgs. If some guys step up at WR and the defense improves to mediocre I can see a really special year. I see Smith having a great year at QB. The OOC games are very winnable and the CUSA schedule is extremely favorable. The conference championship game should be in Ruston, which will be a huge advantage for a change.
I can easily see the Dawgs playing in a access bowl as the Group of 5 representative. No team from the Sun Belt would be ranked high enough even if they would go undefeated. Fleck left Western Michigan for the mess that is now Minnesota, so WMU will drop off next year. No other team from the MAC appears able to put together an undeafeated or one loss season. In the Mountain West; Boise, San Diego State and New Mexico seem legitimate but I think with playing each other, playing in the MWC and their OOC games I see multiple losses for each. The AAC has several legitimate teams, but again with their conference and OOC schedules I cannot see a team finishing without multiple losses. Earlier this season there was talk of Houston making the playoff but they finished with 4 losses. So again I say the access bowl is available for the taking. With a few breaks and our schedule I can see an undefeated season or at least a one loss season which should put the Dawgs in the access bowl game from the Group of 5. Remember you heard it here first.
8 or 9 wins.
Prove me wrong, Holtz.
Holtz could sleep to 8 or 9 wins next year. I'm just greedy and want double digit wins next year.
But I don't think we will make double digit wins until we fix two problems...
1. Defense and tackling.
2. Being able to play from behind.
So...8 or 9 and probably the HoD Bowl...
Maybe they should watch film of the Seahawks. They seem to play pretty solid defense and tackle well. We may not have 11 pro athletes on the field at once, but surely they could emulate the tackling technique.
What's the chance of getting pre season love this summer and Fall?
Do we have a Rugby coach?
