Talked with a great basketball mind today. He told me that UTSA absolutely deserved to win that game and they actually took it from us more than we gave it away. They ran set plays very well. They defended our "float around the perimeter" offense and forced stupid shots that we willingly took. We have bigs that we could easily run pick and roll or pick and pop sets through and don't. UTSA ran a 2-2-1 zone against us and we never put a man on the free throw line to take up the 5-6 foot wide empty space. We could have forced them to collapse and cover a man who could either turn and shoot a 15 footer or pass back out to a wide open wing player. We don't cut guys off when they run the baseline. We let them dribble right past us and either have a wide open layup or clean pass to a jump shooter. WE ARE LAZY!!!!! This is elementary stuff that I learned in church league. Has anyone seen Konkol pull a kid aside and point to spots on the floor to at least appear like he is coaching him up about what to do when he sees a specific situation again? In rare instances you will see him yell or point to a spot on the floor, but you can count those on your hands.
Steve Henson is the new coach of UTSA. He is a disciple of Lon Kruger, the long time coach at KSU and currently the head coach at OU. He's also a former NBA player for 6 seasons. We may just be getting out-coached here.

If Konkol doesn't know X's and O's, then how did he get hired?
Give him time. This is one game and we have real talent that can come together by mid CUSA season
