UL was ranked 5th when we beat 'em. The next night we beat WKU to win the mini-tourney.
That UL game is a great example of a Russo coaching tactic. He rarely called a TO if the other team was on a run. Instead he would have Wayne Smith slow it down (no shot clock back then) and let the Dawgs handle matters on the court. His thinking was he didn't want to feed the frenzy of the opposing fan base going nuts. In that game we led by double digits and UL went on a run cutting our lead to 2. Russo did not call a TO. He coached from the bench and the Dawgs went on a run of our own, like 8 straight points, Bam! up 10 again.
