If Rivals/Yahoo doesn't get it together soon, they'll also go the way of Scout. I count 20 FBS programs without a Rivals page link including the Ragin' Leopards. That's really bad. Then their team rankings stop at #100. Rivals still hasn't added our punter, and many G5 commitments don't get added and rated unless their school has a Rivals publisher. It's pretty clear why most people reference the new kid on the block 247Sports when it comes to recruiting rankings now.
247 is killing the game. I know JFord works hard on Rivals and their message board is what separates the two.. but I find myself going to 247 daily

He recently stepped down to spend more time with his family. Ben Carlisle is the man now. He will also do a good job.

I've never understood how people make money in this business (publishing about HS recruits). It just seems like a bunch of guys pursuing a hobby, execpt they apparently do it FULLTIME. I'm not sure this is a viable business model.

Those guys both started out at Scout I think, then eventually both ended up at Rivals. Which was the end of our Scout site (for practical purposes).

    It's exploded.

Especially with the big schools, you've got thousands of fans clicking around for the latest news all the time, and if you get an active message board going you've got them all year, not just during recruiting season. That's something you can sell to advertisers I imagine. And when you throw in subscription fees on top of ad money, it makes sense that you can make a living at it.

Well, it makes sense that some people can. At least in the sense that it's understandable how they do it (it still doesn't make sense that people are that into it - but you don't have to be that into it to support the business model, you just need a lot of people a little bit into it).

At a Benjamin a year, and with a good membership count (circulation) lots of ventures can make money on the internet, unless you're a newspaper. Maybe I can start charging that for folks to view/access photos . . . .
