Because it has little to no chance of happening because it would be guaranteed to fail due to lack of support and exposure. Nobody in DFW is dropping $500,000 or more to host a tourney when UNT, UTSA, and Rice have some of the worst basketball programs and worst basketball support in C-USA. Also C-USA East and UAB, which is a majority, will never vote for DFW. It's pointless to push for DFW.

It would be much better for Tech for Bossier City to host the tourney, and that has a much better chance of happening than DFW.

Outside of Bossier City, I think our best bet is teaming up with MTSU, WKU, and USM to push for Memphis to get the tourney out of Birmingham. MTSU and WKU tried to team up to get it in Nashville, but it didn't work because the SEC and OVC already own Nashville for their conference tourneys. There has to be a compromise location to get a couple C-USA East schools onboard to get the tourney out of Birmingham, and I think Memphis is that location. It's also a basketball town with great facilities and good tourism options that's not too big that it won't get noticed by the locals and the media, and it's central to C-USA's geographic footprint.

Do they only vote between two locations every year?

They vote on whomever bids, which has been 2-4 locations. DFW has never bid for the C-USA Tourney.

Can entities outside of the schools (like city sports commissions/council/authority) bid for CUSA tournament? From what I've seen in our conference, the host schools can bid.

Anybody that can meet the bid requirements can submit a bid. What we've seen is schools team up with local sports commissions and venues. Hosts need 2 decent venues, a $500K minimum guarantee, and then at least 8 votes to win the bid. Neither UNT nor DFW have shown any interest in bidding to host.

FAU or FIU should bid for an Orlando tournament.

HP Fieldhouse at Wide World of Disney could host the women and Amway Center could host the men. I know AAC used Amway last year and not this year.

We just got back from Orlando (flew Spirit out of DFW cheap).

Put packages together from each schools airport.

Allegiant only runs May-August out of Shreveport, but you could probably set up a charter flight thru them

    Spirit-3/7 to 3/12 -
    DFW to Orlando - $200/roundtrip
    Houston to Orlando - $150/roundtrip

    Dawg06 - a few questions:

    1. So how does the $500,000 guarantee work? Is it just ticket revenue that is guaranteed?
    3. Who is the Host entity in Birmingham?
    4. Did they have to fund any portion of the guarantee last year?
