Louisiana Tech at Southern Miss
Yep, ODU nipping at our heals with their win over UTEP 87-68. Have to take care of business today!!!!! We will either be a #3 or #5 seed. We have the tie breaker against Charlotte and ODU has the tie breaker against us.Originally Posted by Dawg06

As good as WKU is, they have lost to Charlotte and to UTSA during the season.
Middle Tenn. has lost to WKU twice and Southern Miss.
WKU is still the team to beat, but ODU is playing their best ball of the year right now.
Had a diehard NSU Lady Demon fan tell me yesterday that the Techsters will dance because "that's what Brooke's teams do." I thanked him for his vote of confidence but told him CUSA is a tougher nut to crack than the SLC. He agreed with that. He also acknowledged what I already know, she is a class act. She demands excellence from her players on the court, off the court, in the classroom and she is a great representative of the university.
How much of an impact does she have? Well, even Demon fans who HATE Tech, are wishing the Techsters well because of Brooke. As one Demon fan told me months ago: I can't root for Tech, but I can root for Brooke to do well. So, basically, she is rooting for the Techsters to do well too.
This is who Brooke Stoehr is as a person and as a coach.
Now, back to basketball...
I fully expect us to make some noise in the conference tourney. I will not predict us to win it, but will say I won't be surprised if we do. Just as we might catch WKU or MTSU when they are having an off night, we too might suffer an off night in our shooting or something and drop a game we could have won otherwise. It happens. What I do know is, we will be prepared, focused, and ready to make a run at the Dance.

I think it depends. If WKU and MT bow out early, we would have a shot. Short of winning out (yes, we are a one bid league this year), if we made it to the finals, it would be great experience for our very young team if we were to land a WNIT bid. Don't know if that would happen or not, though. If WKU loses, they will get the auto WNIT bid I believe.
To Dawg80's point above, this is exactly how Brooke was always in the race for the SLC tournament each year. She builds on each game and the team always improves. Asking to go to the NCAA's or even the WNIT in her first year is a tall order, though. It can be done, but anything can happen. I just expect for us to continue to improve each year now.
Also, if ODU can get one of the top players in the country, we should be able to do that too. They have a senior that is in the top 5 now. Glad she is graduating. In fact, I think WKU and MT will both drop next year, as well, while our stock will rise.
We may have the youngest team in CUSA right now, but I am not sure of that. We are definitely young.
DearPaw, should WKU get in to the finals of the tourney, and lose... they could be on the bubble!
Unfortunately for the conference if WKU loses in the finals we will only be a one bid league. The at large bids are going to be gobbled up by the 10 loss power conference schools. Which is sad considering that there are 3 teams in this conference that have played for National Championships before.
We are in 4 place, but just a half game ahead of ODU. If ODU wins today, they take the 4 seed and we get the 5th going into the tournament. The Charlotte game doesn't matter, as we have the tie breaker over them. GO UTSA (a very tall order on ODU's home court today)! ODU/UTSA play at noon.

Someone check me on this, but if ODU wins today, the match up would be us against Marshall in the first round.
In the second, we would have ODU regardless. The big difference is we will have played the day before and it will be ODU's first game. GO UTSA today!!!!!!!!!! That will reverse it and give us that first round bye.
This could all be wrong if Charlotte finishes tied with ODU. I am unsure of the tie breaker between them. They split in the regular season. If Charlotte and ODU win today, that would create a 3 way tie for 4th place. If Charlotte gets the tie-breaker over ODU (overall record????), Charlotte would be our second round opponent if we beat Marshall. Lot's of scenarios to work themselves out today.
It's tough to cheer for UTSA in any sport. But for today, GO RUNNERS!

I guess we should be pulling for Charlotte, as well. If ODU and Charlotte both win, they split the regular season, but Charlotte has the better overall record. I would MUCH rather play Charlotte in the second round than ODU and I think the 4 seed would go to Charlotte in that case.
