    Some political perspective

I returned today from my 5th venture to Nicaragua, the land of volcanoes. There truly is nothing better than a visit to a foreign land to reset one's perspective on America. I believe that a lack of perspective creates tremendous naivety in a majority of people in this country.

    For some political perspective...

Over a week's time, I spoke with Nica natives including our 4 executives (one our Nica CFO and another our Nica attorney), managers, regular team members, a few restaurant servers, hotel workers, a couple of friends of our executives, a coffee plantation owner and his family, and some of the plantation workers and their families. These people vary in skin color from white to black. Some speak perfect English and know 2-4 languages. Some don't speak a word of English. All of my employees have college degrees. The coffee guy (who was awesome) is a 6th generation farmer and exports 1/3 of all Nica coffee exports...equaling just over 1.5million lbs annually. Some people are working hard and making $150-$600 a month. Some belong in the category of "poorest on earth."

The immigration ban was their #1 topic for questions. The educated ones asked about tax policy as #2 and gun control #3, on average. Every single one wanted to know our feelings about Trump first. Sometimes we discussed in groups, and sometimes individually. We gave short answers and then prompted them to talk every time.

Almost 100% support Trump. Some don't like him, but still support him. The very few who didn't were millennials and doing ok financially. 100% agreed with the immigration ban, but Nicas have a good bit of disdain for Mexicans.

The more aware business people asked me about the NICAct, which would defund Nicaragua unless the governments gets rid of the corruption. They like our stance, but have no faith the their government to comply. They all asked about what Trump's stance will be against dictator-like governments like their...because they said Obama did nothing. They all desperately want Trump and America to stand up to socialist/communist governments and influence their government in the people's favor.

They all had very interesting perspectives on America, and this trip they were the most inquisitive and forthcoming of all my visits because of the election. Some of this perspective has been formed through the federally owned media...which is the only media in Nica FYI. But that also causes them to not trust it. There is no freedom of the press.

    Anyone have any specific questions?

Interesting that you started this thread because I was thinking about corruption last night as it pertains to our country.

As you mentioned, Nicaragua is quite corrupt:

    https://www.transparency.org/country/NIC

What Trump is getting flatly wrong - IMO, because he has NPD and has not faithfully accepted his responsibilities and obligations as POTUS - is that government leaders strict adherence to conflict of interest guidelines play a major role in preventing actual corruption and reduce the perception of corruption. This has a direct and substantial impact on the country's economic performance.

To say that he is above the law is focusing on Trump first and the country second. The POTUS sends a strong signal when he lets personal and family financial interests influence his actions.

The corruption in Nica is unlike any I have ever seen, at every level. The people suffer.

In Nicaragua, are the strip clubs totally nude or just topless?

I wouldn't know personally, but with a few $, you can get whatever you want, anywhere you want.

For example, I asked if it is possible to get a concealed carry permit down there. The answer is the same as it is for anything else. "With enough $, yes."

Can I get out of a $200 speeding ticket? With $20, yes.
Can I steal a car and not go to prison? With enough $, yes.
Can I get an illegal full auto AK? With enough $, yes.
Can I illegally acquire my own pet monkey? With a little $, yes.
Can I get my own personal driver, body guard, and waiter? For about $150 a month each, yes.

    And so on...

This is exactly why Bill and Hillary Clinton should be in prison.

So, we were driving back from the northern mountains on Thursday and as we passed through a small town at the base there were about 100 people on both sides of the road who would hold up various things hoping vehicles will stop and make a purchase. Items for sale included, among more normal things, armadillos, opossums, raccoons, exotic birds like macaws (some of which are likely endangered) and toucans, all sizes of iguanas, and we saw three howler monkeys.

Selling the birds, iguanas, and monkeys is highly illegal.

I guess I should have made it a little clearer for those that haven't followed the Clintons as close as I have. When Bill left the office of president in 2001, they said they were dead broke. In the last 16 years they have accumulated over $200,000,000, and a lot of that money came from countries visited by Hillary as secretary of state. She also made a lot of money giving speeches where she was paid $1,000,000 per speech. When she became secretary of state, Bill's speeches went from around 100,000 to $500,000-$1,000,000 per speech.

That is completely different. There is no quid pro quo for that. Trump's personal and family entanglements make him a magnet for actual and percieved corruption - both of which are harmful for the US.

Not saying its not a bad thing. Just, as the thread says, we need to be aware of the perspective.
