But putting together a schedule isn't all about selling tickets. You have to balance a 13-game OOC schedule to make it work. Buying one SWAC game per season makes sense financially and logistically. Same as buying one non-DI opponent. But each one of those crappy opponents needs to be balanced out with a road game at a Cartel opponent. I'm all for buying 1 Southland, 1 SWAC, and 1 non-DI while playing 3 Cartel road games to balance them out. We bought 3 crappy home games but only scheduled 2 road money games.
We should never play 2 non-DIs, and we should always play at least 3 Cartel road games to give us a chance. Beating a Top 25 Oklahoma team, C-USA regular season champions, and 27 total wins were only good enough for an NIT 3 seed. We've gotta beat at least 2 Cartel teams, and only scheduling 2 Cartel teams is asking our guys to be perfect, which is pretty much impossible.
Believe it or not, we are gradually improving our OOC schedules, just a little slower than I'd like. Remember Richard and White scheduled ROAD games at SWAC schools. Our only road OOC games this year are at Texas and Alabama. The Cancun Challenge is the best exempt MTE we've played in since I've been following Tech basketball. What we're doing ain't working, but it is slowly getting better.
