    TECH 3 Point Records

One stat that has not gotten a lot of notice is Cobi's 3 point shooting.

He is hitting 42.6 percent this year which puts him 24th nationally.

His 69 made 3 pointers puts him just out of the Top 50 in the nation.

Yeah, I got a little irked with the hot-head mantra. We need somebody with some fire and he definitely has that.

He also has the purest shooting stroke I have ever seen at TECH. Absolutely perfect form for a jump shooter.

Throw on top his defensive skills, he is under appreciated.

I don't think Middle Tenn beats us with Jacobi playing. Had he not been suspended for: not swinging, but balling his fist and charging AFTER the dude popped him in the face! We would be tied with Middle Tenn for the CUSA lead right now imo.

We lost by ten without our 2nd-highest scorer and two days after an event which caused a major distraction.

    I'd say you're probably right.

His step back is undefendable when he is on. Has to be the most frustrating thing to defend. Imagine having to defend a three pointer when the shooter is driving towards the goal with the ball and is several feet in front of the three point line. Throw in his length and high release, can't guard it. Has to be like guarding two guys at once.

That MTSU game was a lot closer than 10 points. We led for most of the game and then intentionally unintentionally fouled them to send them to the line several times in the last 30 seconds, even gave them 2 more FTs with only 2 seconds left. The last minute of that game was poorly managed. We fouled when we shouldn't have and then didn't foul when we should have.

    Re: TECH 3 Point Records

Well, I slighted someone in updating these records yesterday.

Erik also moved into to the Top 10 last week (he went 10-14 on the Texas trip); he has an outside chance of breaking onto the season list,
particularly if he keeps doing what he has for the last two weeks. So, Eric Brown has also been knocked off of the
    career list this year.

    Re: TECH 3 Point Records

    Couple of other tidbits.

I don't know how often the career stats are updated.

I went back and checked Alex Hamilton's numbers. He actually finished with 110 made 3's for his career,
so he broke into Top 10 the last regular season game at Western Kentucky last year.

Cobi and Erik each started this season with 82 career made 3's.

Cobi knocked Alex out of Top 10 against Prairie View on December 13th, so Alex only remained on the career list for 12 games.

    Re: TECH 3 Point Records

In response to PawDawg's query as to where Cobi stacks up on historical shooting percentages

Number in parentheses, if any, is current Top 10 ranking on MADE 3 pointers

BEST 3 POINT SHOOTING PERCENTAGES (minimum 100 attempts)

    1. Mark Dick 1991-1993 45-102 44.1
    2. JoJo Goldsmith 1988-1992 88-204 43.1
    3. Lavelle Felton 2001-2003 72-172 41.9
    4. Eric Brown 1990-1992 125-300 41.7
    5. Reggie Gibbs 1989-1990 70-175 40.0
    6. Brett Guillory 1986-1990 129-323 39.9 (10)
    7. Jacobi Boykins 2014-2017 154-395
    39.0 (7)
    8. Daryl Knight 1987-1989 58-150 38.7
    9. Eric Woods 2002-2005 52-137 37.9
    10. Kyle Gibson 2006-2010 217-580 37.4 (3)
    11. Lonnie Cooper 1995-1999 219-587 37.3 (2)

    Others of interest

As I hope is evident from the chart, formatting notwithstanding, there are only 3 current Top 10 3 point shooters that
are also in the Top 10 for 3 point percentage.

Brett Guillory, at No. 10 on the made list, is the only guy who shot at a better percentage that what Cobi is now. This year Cobi is
shooting over 2 points better that Guillory's career average so it is not unfathomable that he will surpass Guillory's career average.

It is also a significant possibility that Cobi ends up as No. 1 on the career made list before he is done.

Bottom line, there is a reason he has the green light; he needs to let that sucker fly anytime he gets a good look. The next one is always going in.

    Re: TECH 3 Point Records

One last bit of fun with math.

To score the equivalent of what Cobi is doing from the 3 point line this year, a 2 point shooter has to hit 63 percent of his shots.

    42 X 3 =126 ; 126 /2 = 63

FYI, there are only 8 players in the country shooting 63 percent or better.

I am really not that good with math, so one of you geniuses correct me if I am wrong
