It certainly appears that way. You must have been pondering PawDawg's word math question.

To score the equivalent of what Cobi is doing from the 3 point line this year, a 2 point shooter has to hit 63 percent of his shots.

    42 X 3 =126 ; 126 /2 = 63

FYI, there are only 8 players in the country shooting 63 percent or better.

I am really not that good with math, so one of you geniuses correct me if I am wrong
That is why the midrange jumper has disappeared. If you aren't getting a high percentage shot like a layup or dunk, statistically it's better to shoot a three because the reward is 50% greater, and the risk is much less. Dunks and threes are not only the most exciting plays in basketball, but they are also the most efficient.

The mid range is a lost art, but it still has it's place. A player with an effective 12-15 footer, particularly a pull-up, can open up more opportunities for those dunks and open 3's for himself and his teammates.

You are probably right. I am speaking strictly to math.

    Let's take McCree for example:
    2 x .548 = 1.096 points scored per 2-point shot taken
    3 x .409 = 1.227 points scored per 3-point shot taken

If we assume midrange percentages are lower than layup/dunk percentages, then the difference in production from McCree's 3-pointers and his midrange game is much greater in favor of the 3-point shot.

Conclusion: We are better off with McCree shooting 3s than 2s (unless they are high-percentage layups or dunks).

    Let's take Omar for example:
    2 x .589 = 1.178 points scored per 2-point shot taken
    3 x .125 = 0.375 points scored per 3-point shot taken

    Conclusion: Omar, stop shooting 3s!

Reggie Gibbs was very good. Played only one year at Tech after he transferred in when Houston Baptist dropped hoops. He was eligible to play without having to sit out a year. Jerry Loyd got him here, but I think it was because Loyd was a friend of the family or had close friendship with that coach. Regardless, Loyd did get him here and he was fun to watch. Smooth. The game seemed so effortless to him. Too bad he didn't come to Tech in the first place, although, he was highly recruited coming out of high school, and even more so for his final year of eligibility. So, I suppose it's good we got him for a year.

And then Bracey and Jean can get the rebounds for us. Basketball (and all other sports) is not 100% about scoring. If he is left wide open, then we are better off with McCree taking advantage of that. If he is going to stand around at the 3-point line all night and not play inside like a PF is supposed to do, then we are likely looking at another embarrassing lopsided loss.
