So what's wrong with an abacus?
Oh...I bet you were talking about those high tech slide rule things.
I'll have you know my slide rule was modern plastic.
I know some business people who will go into the office on Thursday and Friday but will take vacation days the Thursday and Friday prior to Mardi Gras instead.
The Thursday night parades have become big draws. Some consider Muses a SuperKrewe. Then in the past few years, Nyx, which rolls on Wednesday night, has gotten so big some now consider it a SuperKrewe. It will roll this year with nearly 2,500 riders. Both are female Krewes.
Both parades roll on the Uptown Route, down St. Charles Avenue.
I did the Pete Fountain Half-fast Marching Club thingy several times. Was the guest of a business associate. It was....interesting, and tons of fun!
BTW, my son is in the Krewe of Endymion. My wife and I get the best possible duty...we get to have his three young-uns for the weekend. Yes, it's true. Ole Dawg80, the ultimate party animal! is now content to babysit grandchildren. As Maxwell Smart would say, "And...loving it!"
BTW, the Mid-City Parade used to host the "battle of the bands," way back in the '60's and into the early '70's. My parents, thru their business connections, would get free tix some years to sit in the bleachers where each band would stop and perform, in front of judges. I remember seeing Bama's Band known then as "the Million Dollar Band". LSU, of course, plus many other schools, some SEC schools, would have their band there.
Also regarding the parade itself. Although this is the Krewe of Mid City it no longer parades in Mid City. It uses the extended uptown route from Magazine to Napoleon, and then St. Charles down into the Warehouse District and the CBD to Canal.
