    Re: Feaster fired by Parkway

A ridiculous anti-private school hysteria has swept thru the public school football sector. Recently I had the occasion to speak to a coach from Covington High. During the conversation, with coaches from several other schools, he says, "Well, we won't be scheduling those Rummel "animals" ever again!" I asked for clarification. He said the past two seasons (home and home) Covington lost 7 players to career-ending injuries in the games vs. Rummel. So, I said "Really? You don't think that injuries happen, and those just happened to happen...." He cut me off, while shaking his head emphatically, "No! They are too big, too fast, and play the game at a different level." Another coach, from another public school, put in, he didn't find that much difference, and cited a game they played vs. another public school when they had two players severely injured.

Eventually, the coach from Covington backed off a little, especially after I told him I played for Rummel and just didn't buy this whole nonsense about private schools recruiting and playing "animals."

That's what it has become. A hysteria. Some years, the best high school football teams, say the top 2 or 3, and say 7 of the top 10, are private schools, and sometimes it is public schools. It's an ebb and flow, based on who has the most senior teams, with maturity and experience. It is bullshit! to say that private schools have separated and play "at a different level." I will agree that most private schools maintain a certain, consistent level, year over year. Look at Rummel this past year. We were not very good, finished 7-4. It was a down year. But, we were still competitive and could have beaten, on any given Friday night, anyone in the state.

I want the whole 5A back together again. Let the better teams win. And I'll bet you right now, that over a ten-year span, the 5A champion will be split about equally, 5-5, between private and public schools.

And those public schools who are snowflakes, can opt to play down a level or two. That would make for a very competitive 5A playoffs every year.

I'm told, through the coaching vine, the coach and principal were headed down this path. Principal had notified the coach the school was gonna start taking a cut on the football revenue and, of course, the coach started balking.

When I noticed that the principal that hired him at Parkway had moved up and on and that he had a new principal trying to control him...writing is on the wall...like TECH77 said he does not play well with others...his way or the highway. Everywhere he goes he wins. He even gets run off when he is winning.

If he didn't, he lied- he told me he played there. I gave him all kinds of crap for being in the lsu shirt when he told me that too, and assured him I would rather him never tell anyone that. Maybe he played for a season or walked on. I don't know- just going by what he told me. I hope he didn't!

Then you can add that to the list:

LAFM: Did you grow up in the Louisiana area? Where did you go to school and did you play football? Did you get a degree?
Yes, I grew up in Mamou Louisiana. I went to Mamou High School where my dad was the head football coach at the time. I played qb for the football team. I did not go on to play in college. I went to Louisiana Tech and got my degree in Mass Education.

Private schools were providing scholarships to kids with o/s athletic skills (with limited academic skills) when I was in high school in 1970, I would like to think that that practice has stopped. On the flip side, folks sometimes move public districts to enhance the child's experience.

In Texas, I am only aware of one private school (Jesuit) that plays in a public district.

I've had some "experiences" with Feaster going back to his days at Natchitoches Central. Both as a coach and a teacher (math), I've gotten crossways with him on things he said about my kids. Of course, it was fairly tame vs. things he said about other kids. Still, it was unprofessional and certainly uncalled for. He's just a jerk, I guess.
