This will happen in baseball. Games get out of hand, and then they'll insert the center fielder to pitch because he used to pitch in Little League. If you lose 2-1 or 32-4 it's still just ONE loss on your record. No sense wasting your other pitchers in a hopeless cause.

It became an embarrassing statewide news story, and it was their home opener, which means nobody other than the players' parents will show up again until they host Tech on April 11. Also their coach is in a "win or get fired" contract year so that was pretty much the worst start possible for him trying to land an extension.

One year Tech beat Lamar 4-1 in a best of 7 series to win the SLC. Our one loss was 23-4. As I said, game got out of hand, Gravy knew it was a lost cause and managed the staff to win the series, not worry about one "embarrassing" loss.

I still think there's still a big difference between a home opener for a program on the ropes and a championship series. It's possible ULM's team may somewhat recover, but it will take a lot to get their baseball fans back to the ballpark.
