Such rights do protect trans children. Peeping toms and pedos already can prey on children in restrooms whether trans kids are able to use the proper restroom for their identity.
I don't know if you have a daughter or not, but try to imagine what it would be like for her to be forced to use bathroom with the boys in school. That is what it feels like for the children with different gender identities.
