    YouTube TV Announces Streaming Service

Someone posted this on the CUSA board. Thought it was a good read for this board.

This is relevant for those wanting to cut cable or have already cut cable, and is somewhat relevant to the conference's TV deal negotiations.

YouTube TV announced today - a streaming service for $35 a month - and it blows all other streaming services out of the water.

    Article: https://www.engadget.com/2017/02/28/yout...v-service/

The following sports channels are included:
    ESPN
    ESPN 2
    ESPN 3
    ESPNEWS
    ESPNU
    FS1
    FS2
    Fox Sports Prime Ticket
    NBCSN
    SECN
    BTN
    CBSSN
    GOLF
    CSN
As well as all broadcast channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc)

The biggest breakthrough for CUSA is that CBSSN is finally on a streaming platform. However, there is no BeIN (surprise, surprise).

Another huge development is that it will offer unlimited DVR services - something that no other streaming service currently offers.

I know I will be switching to this from SlingTV (currently paying $40/mo with no CBSSN or DVR) as soon as it becomes available in my area.

Good news, but as for BeIN, if they don't televise any Tech Football games again this fall, I really couldn't care less if they're covered...

HD, who do y'all use for wifi? UVerse? In case you've never seen it, sportdawg started a thread in the "technology" section and has posted about this. You will enjoy the thread. Even more so if you have reasonably priced wifi service.

If Tech plays on beIn, you can do a 1-month of Fubo TV for $14.99 https://www.fubo.tv/welcome/channels

Also, I use Playstation Vue which has all the channels except CBS Sports. It also does have beIN - for $34.99. We get unlimited DVR (albeit for 28 days).

I believe the HULU Live product is going to have CBS Sports as well. https://www.cbscorporation.com/2017/...ve-tv-service/
Hulu today announced a comprehensive, new agreement with CBS Corporation to carry America’s most-watched broadcast network, CBS, as well as popular sports and entertainment channels CBS Sports Network and POP, with the potential to add additional networks in the future.

Re: YouTube TV Announces Streaming Service

YouTube may have just changed college football forever.
The Internet’s official home for cat videos announced the creation of YouTubeTV, a streaming service includes nearly every channel on which college football is played — ABC, CBS, FOX, CBS, the ESPN family of networks, Fox Sports 1 and BTN. The best part for consumers? YouTube TV will cost only $35 a month, with personalization options for up to six members on each account.

With YouTubeTV, you can record as much as you want with no limits.

But one doesn’t have to squint too hard to see how the best part for consumers could be the worst news for conferences. ESPN’s business model is funded by a $7 per month per subscriber fee charged to each cable and satellite provider, a cost which providers then pass along to consumers. But, as we know, cable subscriptions are dropping — 40 percent of millennials do not have cable — and, as a result, ESPN subscriptions are dropping by about 300,000 per month (other networks are also losing subscribers; they just don’t have as many subscribers to lose). We haven’t seen how much of that $35 monthly subscription will make its way to Bristol, but if ESPN doesn’t get 20 percent of the overall take, the entire college football ecosystem becomes an expensive game of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie:
If ESPN makes less money, it will have less money to pay conferences.
If conferences make less money from TV, they will have less money to give their schools.
If schools bring home less money, they’ll have less money to pay coaches.

“It’s a testament to the way that YouTube works with partners of all sizes that we’re able to offer up the lineup that we have today,” YouTube chief product officer Neal Mohan said Tuesday. “We feel we’re in a great position to reinvent the way TV works. No other company in the world has more experience serving high quality video over the internet, high-def streaming, apps that don’t crash, and seamless integration with mobile and web.”
The nature of how people consume television is changing drastically —“connected” TV grew by two-thirds last year alone— but it hasn’t touched college football. Not yet, at least.Tuesday’s announcement may change that.

Yep, I don't think we're that many years away from seeing the bubble burst.

The bubble can't burst until podunk areas like Ouachita Parish have affordable alternatives for wifi service.

Since I am going to keep my U-Verse I can just pay $10/month extra and get all the same channels. Besides it won't be a crappy internet feed. At least all of my streaming experience with BeIn, ESPN3 etc have been barely watchable at times.

I understand you internet issues. I did not cut the cord until I had "high speed" internet with a high data cap. But I'm saving $80 monthly by not having DirecTV. My playstation vie is $35/month . I get all the channels I need (except CBSSN - but I can go to in-laws for that)

Seems like just yesterday I was a kid and we had tin foil on rabbit ears to get Raycom Sports on the local UHF station.

Good thing Al Gore invented the internet!

. . . and it WAS today when I pulled out the digital antenna after DirecTV took a rain break.
