McCree (1st) and Boykins (3rd)...that's it?
Specialty awards and Player of the year come out later in week.
I think McCree's chances just went up
They did really good on the selections.
The only thing I would change is Artis on 1st team instead of Koulechov. I find it a little odd that the 5th place team had 2 on first team and the hottest team in league had none
The fact that Upshaw didn't make first team, probably means it will come down to Erik and Elmore from Marshall.
Jacorey Williams was Middle's best player this year and deserves to be first team; he is also a one and done transfer that should be newcomer of the year. I don't think he will also be POY.
Evans from Rice is Sophomore, not likely to get POY. He also has a teammate on 1st team in Koulechov. If you have 40 Percent of first team and finish 5th probably neither get POY.
That leaves Elmore as Erik's main competitor. Statistically awesome, leading conference in scoring and assists. However, his team finished 6th, he is a Junior and he was only 4th team in pre-season.
I think we are going to have our 3rd straight POY along with the Freshman of the year in Bracey.
I thought Erik lost the POY with the game against Rice. Then, I thought he needed to put 30 up against USM. He had 14 in the 1st half (I think) and finished with 18.
I just don't see us getting 3 in a row, no matter how deserving McCree is.
Konkol needs to be COY.
Louisiana Tech Erik McCree earns first-team honors after receiving a nod on the C-USA second team a year ago. The senior forward anchored the league’s second-youngest team to a second-place finish in the regular season standings. McCree registered 12 double-doubles on the season, and finished among the top six scorers (17.7 ppg) and rebounders (8.7 rpg). He scored 25 or more points in six games. A native of Orlando, Florida, he is one of only four forwards in the nation to have made at least 175 field goals, 50 3-pointers and 100 free throws.
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
I think Eric will win it after Upshaw and Potts from MT didn't get selected for the 1st team.
There is no way POY will come from the 5th or 6th team.
Rice getting two players on the first team is a joke.
It would surprise me if it wasn't McCree at this point. Williams has to be Newcomer, right?
Its just that everyone seems to think so highly of McCree as a player and leader.
A new article has been posted on www.latechsports.com:
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced on Tuesday that Louisiana Tech’s Erik McCree has been selected to the USBWA All-District VII Team, as voted on by its members.
