WOW, got on here expecting to find out we won game 2! Couldn't find the broadcast of the game here...
Need to put it to Grambling, and ULL next week!
Yes, it is about the money. The Box seats something like 10,000 and the Tigue is a bit over 5000. Not sure of Turchin's capacity, but in a nutshell, that's going to be your competition to host most years. And while nothing is impossible, it's generally a lot easier to make it to a super if you've also hosted the regional.
As I previously posted, it's not about the money at all. That was the case 25 years ago but not today. The NCAA set guidelines for minimums when it comes to seating capacity, etc...when submitting a bid. The rules evolved to give schools from the west coast and the northeast who have smaller facilities an equal shot at hosting a regional. Again, we have to be able to provide 300 permanent seats to each school. It won't be a problem.
Actually, this is one we wanted to play. Arkansas State's RPI will rise as they get into Sun Belt play, given the Belt's strength as a baseball conference. ASU will likely be in the top 100 in the RPI by the end of the season. A road win over a strong opponent would have helped as the RPI begins to stabilize in the next month or so. More so than RPI is the fact we now split the series rather than win the series. Over the past decade that's been a factor for the Baseball Selection Committee.
The game we really want to not play is Grambling on Tuesday night. I am wondering what it would take to make that happen.
RPI is stupid. If we beat Grambling 32-4 (or some embarrassing score like that) we drop in RPI just for having played them. Game gets rained out (and not rescheduled) our RPI goes unaffected. Stupid.
Lose to Grambling and our (or any team's) RPI should take a big hit. Barely beat Grambling, like 9-7, or some such score, our RPI should take a minor hit. Beat the crap out of 'em...and our RPI should go unchanged or maybe even ease up a point or two, depending on what GSU does vs. other quality opponents.
Simply playing a team, anyone, should not, in of itself, penalize us.
