Umpires vs. UL-Lafayette - all Cajun grads

According to the UL-Lafayette fans the entire crew were Cajun graduates.

There should be a ban on crews from at least graduates of the team's on the field in all sports, in an ideal world it would be great if there was a ban on rivals/conference mates of the same teams

Maybe there was an agreement between the coaches on the road team selecting the crew. This is similar to what most visiting teams do in football.

Our AD has no clue about this common practice used in football.

Maybe then we'll get an all Tech crew next time we visit Lafayette

Most umpiring crews are not loyal to their alma maters. The rest of the crew did a good job last night other than the mess up at 1st base.

I think the deal between the home plate ump and Diaz became personal when Nate came in. That's when he REALLY started getting bad.

Lane getting tossed was in order to protect Diaz. Diaz was incredibly close to being ejected.

The home plate ump couldn't have been more than a few years older than the player. Perhaps some immaturity on both sides?

Yes he was. They were mouthing back and forth long before HCLB came out.

Pretty sure Diaz go the last word behind the plate.

Coach said after the game it was a lot better for him to be tossed than Diaz.

Watching HCLB come out and let that ump have it, especially to protect Diaz, really earned him a lot of respect in my book. Not that I didn't already, but I was proud to have him as our coach.

I noticed he kept pointing at the USL dugout - wish my eyes were better so I could read his lips

He did a great job of protecting Diaz...

Yep. And Burroughs got his full "money's worth" in time and finger pointing. I think he ran out of things to say before finally leaving the field. lol

The catcher and the plate umpire have to be on the same page. I rely on that catcher to protect me. I rely on that catcher to catch the baseball and give me a good look of where it crossed and ended up. A catcher that can't do those simple things, or argues balls and strikes, is doing his pitcher no favors. He's not going to get the benefit of the doubt on any close pitch.

It's not the umpire's job to be subjective and get his panties in a wad if someone doesn't like what he's doing. His job is to call a fair game and be consistent. It's not all on the catcher.
