This business about "first time ever" being ranked is ridiculous.
There is no telling how many times we appeared in a weekly poll during Coach Patterson's career. But history shows we FINISHED 15th in 1980, 19th in 1986 and 27th in 1987.
It is not that hard to do this research.

I know there were at least a couple of times during the 70's and 80's when we came within a game of making the College World Series. But we always had to get past Texas in the regional final and could not quite do it.
I bet you're the kind of guy that thinks he's making up all these stories of "firsts and biggest" just to pad his resume. Shame on you.

Our AD, his SIDs (under his direction) consistently print misinformation about Tech Athletics which totally ignores the past. Things like past bowl history, attendance, and national rankings have been ignored.
I thought one year it came down to us and Hawaii. We lost to UH 2-1 after we loaded the bases in the bottom of the 9th and couldn't score. Hawaii went to Omaha.
Got any idea which year?
