This will be a great event for Ruston and all of N. Louisiana guys and gals!!!!! Check out the interviews below.

A new festival in Ruston will take place the same day of the Louisiana Tech University Football Spring Game.
The Seratones, of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Louisiana Soul Revival featuring Doug Duffey, of Monroe, Louisiana, will headline the inaugural Railroad Makers and Music Festival on April 8 in Ruston’s historic downtown district.
The festival will also feature the bands Big Head, of Monroe; Montague, of New Orleans; Supernaturals; of Monroe; GoofyBoots, of Greenville, Mississippi; and more than 100 regional makers as well as several food trucks, said Joshua Mitchell, Railroad Fest’s founder.

Interesting. I like seeing Ruston do stuff like this. Congrats to Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker and the leaders in Ruston.

When Ruston host the Peach Festival or any event downtown, do they close down Trenton and Vienna street? I wonder how traffic from Hwy 167 is routed.

I'm told the restaurants will such as Ponchatulas and Sundown will be but you must remain there and not walk around. However, the music portion of the Fest at the Railroad Park (3:00 -10:00) will be serving beer and wine including specials. But the alcohol must remain at Railroad Park.

I wonder if this is possible in the future. I would think Farmerville/Hwy 33 would be a good bet. It's close to 167 south of town. Could reconnect via I20 frontage road.

    How was it?

I love that people are making things happen in Ruston, but I'm a bit confused about a Ruston/North Louisiana "heritage" festival with a music lineup full of indy/rock/jazz bands with no country or Christian music.

Not many folks with more north Louisiana "heritage" than Doug Duffey.

I guess. I just don't see how that kind of music lineup would appeal to the majority of folks from Ruston/North Louisiana. It seemed more like they were trying to import New Orleans' Jazz Fest than truly embracing North Louisiana's mainstream music culture. I just don't see how they can try to sell it has a Ruston/North Louisiana heritage festival without any country or Christian music.

North Louisiana has damn strong musicians. Maybe the festival organizers can get more local flavor next year. Here's a good article about one of my favorites, Kenny Bill Stinson.
