Football LA Tech NFL Free Agent Signings

It appears that Cyril Noland-Lewis may be the first Dawg to sign a free agent deal. His tweet tonight...

    Cyril Noland-Lewis‏ @C_Noland02 40m40 minutes ago
Proud to be a part of the Arizona Cardinals organization!

Edit: Yep, Coach Sloan just confirmed it. Congrats Cyril and good luck in the NFL!

Great. I expect Ryan Higgins to get a shot somewhere too. It's kinda funny, but Higgins' story is almost identical to this year's overall NFL #2 draft pick by the Chicago Bears, Mitchell Trubisky (6'2, 222) of North Carolina. Trubisky only started 13 games as a Tar Heel, and served as a back-up the previous 2 years. And yet, now he's the #2 overall pick.

I realize the draft hasn't even been over 24 hours yet, but I thought we would have heard about more UDFA signings of Tech players by now. Maybe it means the players have more than one offer to choose from and each player wants to pick the team that makes the most sense for them. Surely we'll have at least as many UDFA signings as drafted players.

I'm beginning to think Cyril received an invitation to a rookie mini-camp tryout instead of signing a UDFA contract because he is not showing up on any of the lists I have been tracking for UDFA signings. Houston Bates went the rookie mini-camp tryout route (Texans and Redskins) so it is possible to land on a NFL roster without being drafted or signed to a UDFA contract right after the draft.

Nope. Cyril signed as a UDFA, not a mini-camp invite.

Good deal! The Cardinals finally got around to officially announcing it. https://twitter.com/AZCardinals/stat...69272250064897

Higgins wasn't listed on the NFL website as a draft prospect. Any chance he isn't pursuing the NFL?

It looks like every NFL team is having its rookie mini-camp either this weekend or next weekend. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...-program-dates

I didn't think Higgins would be drafted, but I felt he stood a good chance at a UDFA contract. At a minimum I thought he would be invited to a rookie mini-camp. It doesn't speak too highly for C-USA if the recipient of its most valuable player award doesn't even get a shot at making a NFL roster.

Maybe what it does is speak highly of our coaching staff and how they developed a student-athlete with no NFL potential into C-USA's MVP? That's following our coaching staff turning two guys who were written off by other programs into C-USA Newcomers of the Year. And our receivers are ballers.

The NFL does not evaluate a scrap book.

Darrell Brown (Jets) and Darrell Travis (Bengals) got rookie mini-camp invites.
